Luckily the Titan is well engineered; far and away the best 1/2 ton truck I've owned- and I've owned 'em all. Mine was a 2017 single-cab longbed 2wd- averaged 19.6 around town. Trips to Davis, West Virginia yielded a smidge better. Trips to Bostic, NC, I averaged 22.5 - and this is with a bed-full of tools. Carvana offered me an amazing deal so I sold it. Now if I needed a 3/4 ton, I'd be looking at the 03-09 Chevrolet/GMC- the database work I do for a living backs this up, though TBH, just about any full-size has some roses and some stinker. We filled up the Tahoe yesterday, $87 from 1/8th tank; 21.7 MPG for the day, mostly spent on Route 60 and I-64. Knowing what I do now about GreenBean batteries, I have absolutely no hesitation buying another hybrid, and we may start looking for a used one selling at a discount due to a need for a battery replacement.I'll add that running our equipment- the Billy Goat rush-mower, the walk-behind line trimmers, and other assorted stuff- certainly costs a little more, but it sure beats using just handsaws and swing-blades!

I think you are mistaken. Any engine with an O2 sensor can adjust AFR's on the fly and even without cats, it's not going to run any worse or use more fuel. Emissions and fuel economy are totally separate things and are only partially related. They just smell like they are "burning rich" without cats because there are unburned hydrocarbons present in the exhaust. Generally speaking less backpressure, to a point, is going to return more power and better FE. Most people get worse fuel economy after removing cats, upgrading exhaust, CAI, etc. because their driving habits have changed. Then again, the engine may already be running close to peak efficiency, even with the cats, and any increase in efficiency is really just negligible, even with a light foot. Sometimes you can tune an engine, and it will become more powerful and more fuel efficient, just like tuning a PCP. Most people who have huge fuel economy problems after parts swaps is due to leaking exhaust before the O2 sensor, bad O2 sensor, air leaks in the intake, vacuum leaks, etc.

Most people who have huge fuel economy problems after parts swaps is due to leaking exhaust before the O2 sensor, bad O2 sensor, air leaks in the intake, vacuum leaks, etc.I won't yank the converters on anything I drive. Vehicles with pre- and post-CAT O2 sensors will have problems. If this wasn't the case, my Element (and any Prius) would be fine if somebody stole the cat converter- both vehicles are sought after by cat-converter thieves due to LEV converters. Yank the converter and yeah, they run like donkey diarrhea. Proof: when my Element's CAT was stolen, it barely ran and getting home was a struggle from a grocery store 4 miles away. Some vehicles like my '17 Titan had 2 cats. If you pull the primaries, you stand a major chance of running into problems, especially if you do some major elevations changes since the O2 sensors will not see any major difference between the readings.I've helped a couple friends tune using Power Commander. Basic stoichiometry isn't complex- and there's mountains of documentation on it. You can also buy 3rd party "chips" but good luck passing emissions. There are a lot of tuner shops, UpRev and Cajun (Cajun Bpipes) comes to mind as per my Titan, but bone-stock it got very good economy towing, so I left it alone.Side note: Here in VA, you WILL NOT pass visual inspection, and for the counties and cities that have an emission test, no bueno.CELs relay a lot more information than just a potential problem code. First thing I can think of is an over-rich or over-lean running condition... Both can be very problematic. But hey, people do what they want. It's all fine with me.
The officer said she could hear my car at least 1/4 mile away, and that was just with the cat back exhaust. A shot time later I had it fitted with long tube headers and high flow cats with a custom ECU dyno tune. I can post some good videos if anyone is interested.

I'd like to watch em and congrats on getting away with the donuts. I'm betting that wasn't done just for you but also for some of your friends who couldn't do that in their cars from being killed over there in the sandbox.
Smoke em if you got em! Painting a church parking lot trying to wake the dead in the cemetery ain't right though. lol
It's all good DJ.. I doubt if any of them complained....
At this point in my life I save all my craziness for the ATVs and soft mud.
We have a great network of dirt roads here. You can get just about anywhere on an ATV or SXS, The law don't bother you unless you are being stupid or consuming alcohol right out in the open. Then we have the ATV parks where anything goes... except firearms.
