I think with some darker stain it would look amazing? This is a '72 1400 I restored. I used a darker stain on it but didn't let it sit too long. I'm pretty sure I finished it with Tung Oil. I was happy with the results. The wood grain on the 60's and early 70's Crosman's were really nice.Cheers!Rich Yep. That’s a great looking gun. You won’t see figuring like that on an old Benjamin or Sheridan.

Benjamin and Sheridan guns from this period had stocks of walnut, long the standard for fine gun stocks. Some are beautifully figured, indeed. Elm was used by Crosman as a cheap alternative to keep the price of a kid's air rifle down. Coarse, porous grain makes it less than ideal for the purpose though some pieces can look quite nice.
Your 140 looks great,it almost makes me want to refinish my '65 140.I am kind of happy to keep it in it's honest worn but not worn out condition though.I'd like it to look great again but don't think mine is too bad, and I like having a gun I know is rugged and ready and not so pretty that I worry about it.

That's one of the reasons I like the refinish better than the original finish. It's no where near as shiny and will be harder for critters to see.
When I first got it.... And NOW. I have some fine tuning to do, but it's almost done.
Thanks for all the nice comments. I still have some small parts to blue and I am not sure how to do the trigger guard but I have to say it's fun fixing these.
