.22 Hatsan Edge Brit-spec Detune. Suprise Ending.

Hi.
I bought a new coil spring .22 Hatsan Edge directly from Hatsan a couple(?) of years ago for $89 w/o the scope. I bought it specifically to make a Brit-spec sub 12 ft lb air rifle.
It was a 19+ ft lb beast with a stout trigger pull, but still pretty accurate considering the light weight, heavy trigger, power and my ability to relax through the shot.
I got around to the detune and it has responded marvelously. (The Edge is just a bigger, better made b19, IMO.)
I cut the mainspring 3 coils, then 2, then another 2, for a total of 7, as I tested.
I found a small coil spring of the right resistance at Ace hardware, straightened both sides of a coil, and made a light trigger return torsion spring. I also found a #3 screw at Ace about 2x as long as the original trigger adjustment screw.
I polished and lubed and put it back together.
The new trigger adjustment screw was just right turned all the way in with some Loctite.
It averages 590 fps with Crosman 14.3's for 11 ft lbs. I guess the trigger at 2 1/2 lbs with a little creep, but nicely predictable. The cocking effort is light and smooth.
The shot cycle is still plenty quick, and fairly pleasant considering the heavy piston.
I did one last test and there was a complete suprise.
I did a bore test, pushing a pellet through the bore with a rod to feel for consistent contact.
The barrel is not as consistent as I'd like, but by dumb luck, the barrel on my Edge was crimped at the muzzle through a manufacturing error, and it made a very tight choke!
I did a bore test on my Hatsan 95 and confirmed there was no choke, and that the Edge indeed had a happy accident.
The Edge is now an all day plinker and not pellet picky.
At 11yds, rested and scoped, I got my first sub dime sized 5 shot group with CPHP 14.3's recently, and I expect more as it settles in and I get to know it.
Thanks for your time!

Congratulations Matthew. I had considered doing that but chickened out.

Congratulations Matthew. I had considered doing that but chickened out.
Thanks, Dan!
I must say, this project had me intimidated. (I could shade tree mechanic my car for a new starter or brakes without nerves, but airguns have my number!) I have detuned and retuned the same b19 several times now, so this was a fairly smooth process.
To bring it back around, I am amazed at what British airgunners accomplish with a sub 12 ft lb limit, so I thought I'd join them for a few projects.
Member lillysdad says 'lower power expands your real estate', and I agree, my back yard is way bigger at 11 ft lbs.
I like the lighter cocking a whole lot better, too, ha ha.

Sounds like all the work paid off and very nicely. For that trigger spring? If you bent your lighter one to match Hatsan's, you can get rid
of a little of that creep between start of pull to when it breaks by bending the arm of the spring that sits against the back of the trigger
to shorten how far out it pushes the trigger after you take your shot.
Mr Dan above me, if memory serves, also has a trick for straightening out that wicked curve in the trigger blade to make it straighter
so it's less of a hassle on your trigger finger. Something I keep telling myself I'm going to do to a few of mine, then get side tracked
and forget I was going to...lol.

Nice work! Exactly what I want to do with my Crosman Tyro .177 at an even lower power level. It's close now but still needs some tweaking.
