Bighorn is ready to hunt. 28" .357 hammer forged TJ 1-26 twist barrel.  Reduced the poppet size.  Opened up the valve throat.  Enlarged the dropblock port. Bored the hammer spring hole and running a Benjamin Bulldog spring with spring guide. Custom thick walled shroud and an M18x1 endcap to fit a Donnyfl suppressor.

7 shot tune 930s avg with JSB 81gr
10 shot tune 910s avg with JSB 81gr
14 shot tune 880s avg with JSB 81gr

Magazine holds 7 shots each and the 81gr is pretty much max depth but an SST allows a little longer slugs.

Does it have a choked barrel? If not then the NOE 88 solid to 84 hollow point would work. MP has a similar round but its been out of stock for over a year.

Troy,

I need to sit down at a casting session, do you want any of the NOE in either solid or big hollow point for testing? Powder coat or bare lead and .356, .357, or .358 in size if you want some. This is the mold for dimensions https://noebulletmolds.com/site/shop/355-9mm/359-88-rf-s2/359-88-rf-s2-rg2-cavity-pb/

I'll need to slug the barrel for the size.  Not sure if it's .357 or .358 or somewhere in between. The HP look like they'd put a hurt on small game or predators.

Let me know if you want some, happy to send a bunch as long as you like green powder coat, that's mostly what I've been doing lately. Bare lead is possible but the lubrication from the PC is attractive. I have all three sizing dies and normally size after PC. I also have Lee REAL 50 cal that I need to cast and size down to .510 if you have an interest in any of that. Assuming I get stuck with the mess of the Hammer, I'll still need ammo to put through it.

The bigger question would be choke or straight on the Bighorn, these may not work well going through a choke. But being 357 I would hope there is no choke present, being stuck with pellets would be a real shame. I'd also be happy to send some in any or all of those sizes, doesn't really amount to much work to size some into all three for testing.

If you want to single feed, I have a 125gr that I can send too, another Lee design that works well in my Bulldog. Pretty sure it will be too long to fit in the Bighorn. Lee lists this as .565 over all length (Lee 356-125-2R). these can be a little harder to get up to .358, even after powder coat, but I can give it a try.

The TJ barrels are cold hammer forged and no choke. 125gr is too heavy for this platform anyway.  I'd love to try some of the HPs once I get the barrel slugged.

I'd be happy to send you a few next time I sit down to cast, should only be a few days. When I'm done I'll contact you for address, or you can contact me when you are ready. I need a bunch for myself so not putting me out. I generally do either the flat nose 88gr or the big hollow point for around 82-84 grains (haven't weighed them). I'll probably set the mold to make one of each per pour.

I've been looking for a new .35 cal and this caught my eye.

On your site, does the big horn .357 come with the TJ barrel in 22" or 28"?

Are the TJ barrels threaded for an LDC as the original shroud wouldn't work with the longer barrel?

They are 24" on the website models. I remake the rear spacer and a new threaded endcap to reuse the factory shroud to keep it in tension. New cap is threaded M18x1 for a suppressor.

What kind of speeds does the 24" TJ  give with the 81gr JSB.

Can this platform be run up to 4500psi with cf bottle swap?

The 24-inch Barrel can still do 900 FPS with 81 grain jsb pellets. You can add a 4500 PSI carbon fiber bottle for weight reduction but it still isn't supposed to be filled past 250 bar.

Got it.  Thanks for the information.

Looking forward to seeing how it handles some slugs in the 80-95gr range.

Any updates on the slug testing?

Shooting slugs very well sub inch at 50 but they are cast by my friend so not sure how the commercial products will do but the TJ barrel 1-26 is known to do well with slugs.
