Ok I've been trying to get my side wheel scope tape to act right- one day it's on and the next it's off- but it seems like I'm doing something wrong. Question: do I need to start from 60yards and work my way into 10yards or like I been doing 10-60 yards making marks along the way? Also I know the lighten plays apart does it matter about the color of the targets? Just trying to figure what's going on here, one day my marks reads 45 but laser rangefinder reads more and when i measure it reads more. What's the problem just looking for reliability from the range marks on the scope wheel.

Once your Ocular is adjusted to you eye .. Leave it alone !! It does have effect on what your eye tells you is in/out of focus.
Also head position will screw with you if changing.
* Some scopes SF mechanics have backlash requiring you to ALWAYS take rotation the SAME DIRECTION each time to your best focus.
Back and forth generally is a BAD thing.
Lastly understand using PARALLAX correction as miens to range find is no where as precise as a stereo range finder or laser.
It is going to wander around and this degree varies greatly between scope brands / models.

Your opinions, please, I have to mark my wheel for distance accuracy as well, for coming into HFT. Would this method work?
I have a 150' tape measure. Example .... 150' = 50 yards .... carefully measure 150', set up target to focus on, adjust optical to what I believe is crystal clear, in "perfect" focus ..... then mark wheel at pointer 50 yards. And so on for many other distances.
Then my work would proceed to shooting and using chairgun pro to establish the necessary holdover etc for each yardage.
Scott, one more question, HFT targets are generally in the 15 to 52 yard range, correct? What would you suggest as my Zero distance? I will also check with chairgun pro for a Zeroing distance, and watch where the distances end up on my reticle as I change the Zero distance.

Ideally this EXACTLY how to best set up the range scaling on your SF or OBJ wheel / dial.
Seldom are factory markings accurate enough for precision shooting in FT, so making a scale that is to That Scope and Your Eyes is paramount.
FT is shot CLOSE as 10 yards and FAR as 55 yards so you need scaling @ 23 and under to the yard .. 24 -34 there about will be straight on shot, @ 35 to 55 yards in 2-3 yard marks generally about as tight as will fit on most wheels.
