Title: Maine
Post by: silent_airman on June 26, 2013, 08:10:36 PM
This has got to be the most backward state in the union. I cannot believe that is not even ONE airgun club in Maine.

;D  ;D  ;D look at the bright side your not rubbing elbows with wall to wall  (in the words of little Jack from meet the Fockers ) and  you have plenty of open land to shoot on

Went to York Beach for many years, loved the ocean. Hows the PB laws now? Back in the day you just had to be a resident to get a hand gun

Come on down here to the Peoples Commonwealth of MA. You'll go back down east with a whole new appreciation for your state.

I am in Maine and am interested in a club too. I just spoke so some folks at Scarbourgh Fish and Game (my club across from Beechridge Speedway) and they told me that there is an airgun group that shoots matches in their indoor range on Saturday Mornings around 10. I think I will check that out, but I am more interested in shooting outside, since I can shoot in my basement if I really want indoor shooting...

My interest was peaked to try Field Target after watching some videos online, and I would be interested in any info on events in Southern Maine or New Hampshire if anyone knows of any going on. I would rather meet up with some folks with some experience before outfitting myself for the sport, but will probably go it alone if needed. It seems like an awesome sport and looks like a good time.

I just looked at the gate for discussions by state, and Maine is the ONLY one that has no new discussions. We are without doubt the WORST state for airgunning. Come on, people! >:(

Here it is July and still NOTHING. I am ashamed to be from Maine. Guess I'll just have to shoot by myself. :(

Maine STILL STINKS! >:(

Thanks, at least someone is alive around here lol. I'm not looking for competition. I just want some shooting buddies to form a club, but there just isn't anyone nearby.

Well hey. After last winter I am dreading the next one. But I do like the peace and quiet. No, I agree. airguns aren't very popular. At least we have GTA.

Hope you can find a place
Good luck

We'll, Maine is and always has been a special place for me.  We are headed up next week actually!

AG are enjoying a huge upswing. Making them more popular is up to us! Get out there and talk it up at your gun clubs and firearm related events. You just might be SUPRISED how many "closet" AGers we actually have!

George:

Starting your own FT shooting clan is pretty easy. You just need a place to shoot. Targets and people to show up.

The rules for FT shooting are simple and you can start small. DO something like five rounds of shooting at various ranges by moving the targets after each person shoots. Start at 20 yards, the 25, 32, 38, 41 then 50. To join the "Maine FT AG Club" yearly dues are say 30.00 bucks and that would go to buying targets and prizes for the winners. I think 1st place should get a nice bottle of MD 20/20 LOL!. With e-mail you can set up 4-5 yearly (or 2 shoots) shoots on designated dates and send out a e-mail with the dates and location of the FT match.

I've watched enough videos posted for FT shooting and some appear to be held literally in someone's back yard that has enough room for a backstop (i.e not the neighbors house). Pretty low key and guerilla style but I saw smiles on the ten people shooting.

Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestions. But with my responsibilities starting something like that is just too much. I just want some buddies to shoot with that do not live half the state away from me. Travel just isn't something I can do with any regularity. I don't know anyone around here who shoots airguns.

George,
Perhaps I missed it, but where are you in Maine? I am in Westbrook and shoot Airguns at SF&G often. I did shoot a Field target match in May at AOM in Hollis, Bill was an awesome host, and there will be another match there in September if you are interested.

Hi George,

I'm located "way up" in Northern Maine . . . Patten is the nearest "big" town to me.  I brought up the idea about an air gun shooting club, but was looked at like I was crazy. Nobody wanted to get involved.  A few years ago they did try to get a Muzzleloading Club going but that fizzled out pretty quick. So I shoot my flintlocks by myself. Same thing with archery.

Unless it's a formal organized club seems like people will back off from just meeting some where to shoot . . . liability, insurance issues come into question.  That scares a lot of people.

So I shoot my air rifles with myself and have a pretty good time; my wife shoots with me and has her own "springer.".  We both also shoot traditional archery.

Problem seems to be no one is close by . . . almost two hours to Bangor for us.

I used to spend a couple weeks a summer camping near Baxter with my folks when I was a teenager and I remember the great metropolis of Patten. I miss those carefree summers.

I have another AG buddy who lives Downeast. He has a Facebook page.

I am about 2 hours from Bangor too, though I am southwest, not far from Lewiston/Auburn.

It sure would be nice to plan a meet this summer.

Sorry, I know this thread is old, but it was at the top.

Just figured I throw this out there....I'm in the County, near Caribou and Presque Isle....from away, transplanted from CT 3 years ago.

I don't know anyone but, if I had to guess, I'd say not too many air gunners up here.

Apparently, there's a timeout on ability to edit posts.

Probably should have clarified "up here" to be "up here in Aroostook".

Just a quick 5 hour ride to North Berwick. ;D
