What do most shooters use for a backer to get crisp holes?
I just use corrugated cardboard, targets are standard printed paper.

Nice shooting Carl, I also use corrugated cardboard, but I attach the paper target with spray adhesive. It helps but the holes still close up a bit when shooting domes. I’ve heard some put aluminum tape behind the bullseyes, I’ve decided that’s too much work for me.

Nice entry! I bought some Wausau card stock that took holes better than copier paper, and cardboard (corrogated, cereal box, folder, or even cardstock) helps it further. (Better than a lot of papers I tried, for that matter.) Copier paper can be nasty--the stuff that makes it strong for copiers is longish fibers and processing that causes shots to tear large flaps at times or just make messy "burst" holes. Even some target papers can be fuzzy with wadcutters due to long fibers and weak binder compounds, but a number of different brands of heavy cardstocks seem to do well.

I haven't tried the glued backer, but I should--I've got some spray glue at home.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
I have some 110lb. card stock, I'll try it if I can get it to feed thru.
Thought about thin luan board just to try, got several sheets laying around.
