So I ordered a ACETECH AC6000 so I could get FPS measurements when my Caldwell Chrony would not read due to light, such as night time or cloudy days. The Caldwell is accurate, and low stress to shoot over with a wide and tall capture window. The ACETECH AC6000 is scary to shoot through because you have to shoot through such a small tube. I started off with the muzzle very close to the capture tube to minimize the chances of hitting the chrony and destroying it. The number it returned was obviously not correct. I figured muzzle blast was the problem so I took shots at several distances all less than 2 feet away and the numbers started looking more believable as the distance from the shot tube increased. I then moved back closer and the numbers again dropped to obviously incorrect values. None of the readings were ever accurate but I hear these chronys are good. I did notice a bit of oil splatter on the chrony so I suspect it is a muzzle blast issue. I would be too nervous about hitting the chrony to step back several feet and shoot through it free hand. I suspect it would be more relaxing to shoot off a bench and bags with it several feet away. I will try that when I have time to see if it gives accurate results. The accompanying phone app is pretty cool. If this thing had a large capture tube I would really like it.
