Curious to hear your story friend. What made you shift?
I think what happened is that Daisy, with the 880 shot itself in the foot when they gave us the 880 at 3something dollars, which is about crosman 760 prices. It was good because it got a trillion people thru the door (to the uninitiated, when you were standing in front of the shelf comparing the 760 to the 880, most people walked away with the Daisy...), but at the same time it destroyed the "custom" potential of the gun, as most people just when into walmart and just bought another one when their prior one failed... They discontinued the .22 metal/wood 22sg in 2012 due to "lack of sales", and it was priced at 99.99$. Today if those were available, they would be sold out. The truth is that the 880 was to good a product for the money, and then it went to be produced in china, and they were still decent quality (better if you ask me), cost even less to make (higher profit margin) and that was the nail that sealed the coffin.Today, as Daisy is now a part of Gamo, the chance of that coming back is nil. The only gasp of air a 880 in .22, or bigger, to exist falls in the hands of a few experts and fanatics, like Ron, stonykill, pblawler and few other. I dabble in Daisy and for one, i am grateful for those guys who keep pushing the envelope. I support them and see them and us, 880 users, as the keepers of the secret... and enjoy them as such.Long live the 880...
Patrick, I haven't heard: "Like a Jack A__ eating briars " in many moons. That was a common saying in south Alabama when I was growing up as a kid. That put a smile on my face.
I just bought a .22 short (1x20" twist( barrel sleeve off Brownells for $60 shippedI think the OD is 5/16" so it'll have to be turned down a little to fit a press fit Valve body, but I want to have my own go at making a custom .22 daisyI have a 922 with a brass barrel and it's a cool gun! I think the 880 design is like the AK-47/Glock of air guns. It is SIMPLE for the power it puts out.I cry every time I try to reassemble my Crosman.Go Big Red!
