Extreme FX Pellet Gun Demo is more like it...lol No mention is made that they added a cast boolit exclusion a few days ahead of the match.

The exclusion of cast ammo was due 100 percent to a safety concern from the owners of that range......

So? How far do you have to be from a 30 cal pellet shooter to be safe? So why has the posted rules not reflected this unfortunate development? You see any mention of it on the site?

sounds to me like "he won last year so we need to change the rules".

or

he found a loophole in the rules and we need to tighten it up

Nah...it was a last minute rule change that tilted the advantage to the biggest pellet shooter. To compound it, there is no mention that it was no longer as extrememe as a read of the posted rules might have you believe. There is no mention of any rule addition/change. to top it off, the exclusion is based on a 'safety' concern. I did ask AoA how far one needs to be downrange of a 30 cal pellet shooter to be safe. Given that the match was allowed to continue, a look at the range through Google  Maps will tell you how far the organizers thought was safe...LOL

The failure to amend the rules posting is a serious breach...it is an Extreme Pellet Gun match...and not even very 'extreme' either. Makes it look like some maker or another was hidin' behind moma's skirts from the boolit shooting competition. or maybe they's hidin' behind each other's skirts...IDK, but the lack of admission that rules changed at last minute leaves me unable to trust anything they say or do. The questions about that( no public notice on the rule change ) are met with accusations of urging them( the shoot organizers ) to ignore legit safety concerns.

Douglas

can you post the before and after rules?

So no rules change admission yet...

They let 30 cal pellet guns run, and I have read lots and lots of stuff about target use of them at 200 and more yards. IFF this was only a safety issue, why is there trouble admitting to what they did?

and yes, 75 yards is not so extreme, and I'd make a VERY LARGE EFFORT to attend a Real Extreme Benchrest shoot next year, where ever it may turn out to be. Boolit shooter in hand...:) even though it will only be a liddle .224.

Douglas

I looked at the map, and the space behind the range looks to be around 2500 feet, depending on how/if you draw possible cone shaped danger zone. That is about 2x the distance the boolit guys can tag pop cans at reliably...:)

Douglas

The real answer will be what happens next year.  If they have it at the same range, with no updates to it, then you know it was rigged for the top shooters.  Our to just be a show off for the high end rifles.

If the do end up moving to another range, with a true long range targets, then they really were thinking of safety.

For "extreme" they need more of an unknown distance range.  And something just stupid far....really get people stretching out their rifles.  And make people sign up for the spot without knowing the distance.....let's really see who knows their rifles inside and out, no range finders of course.

A bit simplistic IMO, if there was nothing else going on, why is the last-minute rule change secret? Smoke and Fire do indeed go together. Besides, their own site says just what the match is for: show off the big pellet guns.

Long range is a good idea. 100 yards minimum, preferably a match at two distances...100 and 150 comes to mind, but other folk may judge it  less-than-Extreme...

Yah I hear you Douglas.

It does really not so good what happened, especially when people were already traveling our already there.

I have read more than one place that aoa has done this in the past to promote particular brand of rifles.
