Title: Beman RX repair ?
Post by: IMADMAN on March 19, 2023, 07:57:08 PM
I recently acquired a Beman RX, I believe the gas ram has a leak or a bad o ring? There is zero resistance upon cocking it and if I hold the barrel and squeeze the trigger I think I can hear a slight “click” sound? Anyway I was browsing flea bay and seen a couple of gas rams, not sure if any of them would work? Anyone buy one off of flea bay and successfully rebuilt the RX with one?

I don't know if other rams fit,  but it looks like Pyramid may have the rebuild parts if the RX uses the same parts as the RX2.

Other places with parts might be Rapid Air Weapons in the US and Chambers Gunmakers UK. Dave Slade at Airgunwerks may be able to rebuild the RAM for you.
If you rebuild it yourself, you'll need a fill adapter and a pump- I got an adapter from RAW, cheap Chinese PCP pump from ebay, and appropriate fittings and pressure gage from local hardware stores.
Good luck!

Pretty sure it’s says Santa Rosa on the receiver somewhere.

Forget all the other stuff, no disrespect to the other posters, but just send it to David Slade

He'll get you right

Alex, It could be as simple as a Schrader valve replacement.  Your pressure might have leaked past the valve.

Appreciate that info! I’ll check it out.

No doubt that David is the man when it comes to these. Unfortunately after emailing him, he needs the entire rifle to perform the work. Shipping both ways  alone would not be cost effective to repair it.

If I didn't already have them I'd spend $40 for a dial caliper and big box o-ring assortment (maybe 2 boxes, one inches other mm) from HF. Then I'd carefully break the entire rifle down for inspection, cleaning, relube and o-ring replacement. Probably have it back up and shooting same day. Trying to mod the rifle to use a typical gas spring would be the VERY LAST thing I'd try if all else failed. I'd want to keep that rifle as close to original as possible.

Well if you want to make it worth your time then I would have him go through it for one of his tunes that he offers

Not sure if you know but the RX was over 700 new, and it will bring a pretty penny used, so sending it to Dave is actually an investment. But yes, the RX is the same gas ram as the RX2,and the santa rosa address is the distributor (at the time) which was Doc Beeman. The gun is actually made by Weihrauch in Germany and assembleb with the theoben Gas ram. And some with their trigger too. I would highly recommend it to send it to David Slade, and have him tune it too (trigger work and all). Two things i know for certain:
1 you will absolutely love the way your gun behaves upon its return
2 If and when you are ready to sell it, the paperwork from the tune will make your gun a lot more valuable than a run of the mill, untuned RX, which by no mean are bad, or cheap guns to begin with.

Living in Hawaii, sending anything to the mainland is cost prohibitive.  David Slade does exceptional work, and he is an expert in your model.  How much is it worth to you??? :-[

Any friends who regularly come to the mainland?  Get a hard case and have them carry it as luggage.  TSA checked of course...

Otherwise, join a local airgun group that can use a range.  Talk to the springer guys who their local tuner guy is.  Otherwise, look at all the u-tube vids and become an expect yourself.  Do you have any machine skills?

Or you could invite David Slade on vacation and have him fix your rifle in your home.  Mountain coming to Mohamed.... ;D

if this may help, I just sent 2 guns to Hawaii, 1 box, 50x8x4 and 16 lbs with insurance, from GA through the post office and it was 82$. so it should be less than that for a 10lb package. I also recommend sending the action only, no stock to dimish the size of the box and weight. if you are under 120 both ways its still a good deal. That is not a crosman you are sending... and you'll be surprised with the result.

For all this pep talk re: worth it sending it to Slade, it may well be it's still not feasible, costs-wise.

All good advice given this far. But the RX series rifles are very easy to work on and much safer to disassemble and reassemble than a spring piston rifle.  That is once the shcrader valve has been depressed and the air emptied out of the ram. A dab of moly and  clear tar on the orings and inertia plug are all that’s needed lubricant wise. A fresh schrader valve is an easy item to find. If you don’t know, a schrader valve is that little stem that sticks out of tire bicycle tire stem. Unless you were having trigger issues where those parts are needed and available from Mr Slade, a thorough cleaning, relubing, and piston recharge is all that is needed. I think there is a  UK source for a pump, adapter and pressure gauge set available. Not to shun any airgun tuners out there, but the RX is a relatively easy gun to service and there is a lot of rebuild info for the rx rifles on the internet if you look for it. By the way, the RX rifles are awesome guns!!! Good luck whichever route you should decide to take. tjk
