Replacing Pump Rivet on Crosman 140

The rivet, and or bushing is worn badly on my Crosman 140. It's causing all kinds of havoc when pumping up. I have replacements on hand. Can anyone give me any tips on doing this procedure? I do have a mill and a lathe, if I have to make any parts. I do fear the bushing hole in the link is likely oblong by now, and an oversize bushing may have to be made.

Call Rick at Precision Pellet. He had a bunch of replacement pump link assemblies made to spec and sells them at a very reasonable price. He thinks its a much better option than trying to make your own replacement rivet, and I agree.

what if we removed all the warning labels, and let nature take it's course?

what they said.
Buy a replacement. Then you can practice with the old original pieces, enlarge holes , bevel (chamfer?) the lever, make new parts, harden/temper, etc. Practice on stuff that you don’t actually need.
Just a thought.

I tackled the job myself, and found it very easy. I drilled into the peened side of the rivet with a center drill, weakening the peen. I then drive the rivet out. I found the rivet had the wear, not the bushing or the link. It was worn half way through. Replaced the rivet and peened it over with a center punch. A 3 dollar fix. I love it when a plan comes together.

Congrats! I did a similar fix to the 140 my brothers and I shot as youths. I bought a few rivets at my local real hardware store and got the fix correct with the second rivet. Job satisfaction feels great!
Enjoy your 140.
