I did use a 3/8 diameter punch. Started with a wooden dowel rod, it kinda bounced so I gave it a couple very light taps with the 3/8 drift. I'll stick with the wooden dowel next time. Checked for dirt also. Just finished lengthening the pump rod, went a little to far at first and had to shorten it about half a turn. It helped quite a bit. The pump rod still rises but not as fast and not as far. I'll get back to it a little later this evening. I appreciate the advice and welcome any more suggestions.
