You can mount it as far back or forward as you like. It doesn't need to be centered. The clamp is full length.
A set of extension rings would be a more elegant looking solution than a riser base if they offset your scope a sufficient amount. Extension rings usually come with one extension ring and one standard ring, but I think that they sometimes come with two extension rings.A riser base+rings may look kinda busy, and it may be taller than optimum height. But different strokes for different folks! :-)
