Hatsan Torpedo 150 seal blown!

Well I bit the bullet and bought the two Hatsan rifles I had always wanted, got both on sale at Hatsan USA! Paid $159.00 for the Torpedo in .25 cal. And $179.00 for the Dominator in .22 cal. Well out of the box both were Beautiful guns, and seemed to shoot extremely well! The Torpedo settled down and was shooting 1/4 " 20 yard groups after only 50 pellets or so! Was ripping the center out of the bullseye yesterday afternoon! Went back out for e few rounds of practice today, and shot fine for the first ten shots or so! Then it became very erratic, and wouldn't group at all. Went from 1/4" groups with three different pellets, to about 12" groups with all three pellets! I knew right away what to expect, and sure enough came in tore the rifle down. And wouldn't you know, Hatsans junk piston seal had already gave up the ghost after less than a hundred rounds! So gonna go ahead and order a new vortek seal for the Dominator as well, don't see any reason to let the junk factory seal disappoint me in it too! I am tickled to hear so many people say, that they own x number of Hatsan rifles. And never had to replace a seal or anything in either one of them! I can honestly say I have owned several Hatsan rifles, and I do love them. However the piston seals they use are pure junk, and they should package a new Vortek or Apex seal with each new gun they sale! Because all but (one) of the rifles I have owned excluding the Dominator too. Have all blown the piston seal, and have had metal shavings embedded in them. Quality control at Hatsan needs a make over, and I know I only paid $159 for the Torpedo! But it shouldn't matter, because the same gun was selling for $279 before the closeout sale! And the Dominator for $379, so they still have the same junk seals! Full price, half price, or free the seals are still junk! Only difference is, you don't feel as bad about replacing a seal in a gun you got for a fraction of the price! Sorry for the rant, but I thought some of you guys might want to know what to watch for and be prepared for when buying a new Hatsan!

Amen brother! That said, I don't think their factory seals are any worse than anyone else's. All my fastest shooting Hatsans have factory seals. They are just downright careless anymore when they are building these guns, and damage the seals with shoddy installs and rough-edged air tubes.

I bought a new Hatsan 125 magnum in .22 cal about three years ago now! And on it's third shot the seal gave out, when I disassembled the rifle the seal was in three pieces! The factory Hatsan seals are brittle, and break apart like none I have ever seen! I have Gamo, Diana, Remington, Benjamin, Ruger, Beeman, Winchester! And have had them all apart, and have discovered none of the others although some had seals damaged at the factory from installation, none were brittle! I don't know what kind of material they use, but it definitely isn't up to the task! You would think these companies would be worried about loss of sales! But they seem to pay it no mind at all! Of coarse we are air gun addicts, and they know just like a drug addict! We will buy them anyways, we enable them to sale inferior products! So why should they fix the issues, because they know we will!! Lol

Well I got my new Vortek seal in my 150 Torpedo, and now I see why they named this thing the Torpedo. I do believe you could sink ships with it...lol well maybe just toy ships, but on a serious note this thing is mean!

Well another update, this Torpedo is a lemon plain and simple! It has done blown another dang seal! And I deburred the compression tube and used an installation tool to slide the piston back in gun! In twelve years of tuning and rebuilding air rifles, this is the first one I have ever had this kind of trouble with! I'm thinking the compression tube is not round, its the only reason I can see for the seals to blow after 60-80 shots! Anybody with a suggestion please feel free to chime in thanks!!

What's the seal look like when you remove it? Is this the Vortek seal or the stocker?

It is the after market Vortek seal! I have no idea what this last one will look like, but the original and the first Vortek has grooves burnt in the sealing edge!
