PA called today, said my .177 Proxima is ready to ship.
Hatsan has done it again! This Proxima really is a fine looking rifle, and I'm sure it is very powerful, but why does Hatsan not consider weight as being one of the foremost considerations when designing guns? I predict that the Proxima will go down as the biggest dud that Hatsan has ever produced! This gun, is nearly ten pounds out of the box, but many of us scope our rifles, and that puts this gun in the 11-12 pound range. Top it off that the cocking effort is reputed to be in the range of 45-50 lbs (but those who sell this gun don't dwell on that - and I don't blame them), and Hatsan has built another monster that people might want to own, for some reason, but will be crazy to buy! Then, too, holding the anti bear trap mechanism, while closing the lever, is an exercise in acrobatics! What good is a repeating air rifle that requires under lever cocking prior to every shot, and takes such a heavy cocking effort? Most break barrel or under lever cocking systems require approximately 35 lbs of cocking effort, and even that much effort is often taxing on one's strength after an extended session of shooting. The young, and the old will not enjoy this gun, which leaves those from 20 to 60, and I'll bet I'm being generous to say that maybe 25% of that group might find this gun enjoyable? No! I do not think this gun will be a big seller! Before you call me a woosey, I must tell you that I own all six caliber Hatsan Hercules versions - one of the heaviest mass produced air guns on the market today - ALL SIX - and I'm over 71 years of age, but I won't be buying a Proxima! The excessive weight, I can handle, but the ridiculous cocking effort is too much for me to accomplish for any extended period of activity! Shooting the Proxima will be a chore - it should be fun!
