2300S o ring help and an upgrade question

My son shoots Air Pistol for our local 4H club.  We run into issues where the front orange o-ring on the valve assembly blows out.  Typically this is due to over tightening the cap when installing the C02 cartridge.  While we have addressed this mostly, we still see this issue locally with other kids in the club..

Is there a good place we can order just the o-rings that aren't excessively expensive.  If I try to order from crosman, it is only available when buying the entire valve.

[Upgrade Question] - for our personal Air Pistol, I have read a post made a few years ago about Pro-Top that can be fitted to the valve body.  My question is, are these still available?  Will it address the issue of blowing out the o-ring?  Is it as simple as replacing the top?  I have recently lost my job, but we are still trying to allow the kids to participate in the sports they desire, and this is his go to sport.  So, I am trying to do what I can to get his Air Pistol on top top shape.  He is tolerating the trigger, but it is something else I would like to upgrade. 

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.  He is a pretty competitive kid, and generally places in the top 5 in most competitions.  He has place 4th in state only beat by X's (he doesn't like to talk about that year too much).

That’s a valve seal G397-012.

They should be very cheap if you buy them from Crosman; I’d be shocked if they were 2 bucks 

You need to lube the tip of the C02 cartridge with non-detergent SAE 20 or 30 motor oil, which is basically the same as Pellgun oil.

We definitely use pellgun oil every swap of the C02.  Thank you for the part number for the valve seal.  It isn't in the EVP for the 2300s.

When you install a new C02 cartridge don't crank down on the cap too hard.

Just snug is fine. The pressure will seal everything up and that 0-ring/seal will last you a long time.

The most common repair I've done to the Crosman pistols is to replace that seal.  Folks seem to think that they have to crank down the cap until it screams for mercy.  They're wrong.  As mentioned above, order the seal directly from Crosman using the part number given.  Order a dozen or more to spread the cost over the units.  You might as well throw a number of the breech screws into the order while you're at it as sooner or later you're going to strip one out.  Or just order a number of the "new and improved" ones that are on the market. When installing the CO2 cartridge, finger tight is just right. And that's not white knuckle finger tight, just snug it down.  Fire a shot to open the cartridge and THEN if you hear a hisssssss you can snug it just a bit more.

The Super Sear has long been discontinued, but a simple DIY can make your trigger better, so no need to spend $20 to $30.

ACE Hardware also has springs to replace the one that you have; bring your sample and go for a thinner one.

Does anyone know the best way to remove the original breech screw from the 2300S.  The first time I did it, I had to Dremel it out.  I have replaced it with a new one from crosman which is much better.

But, I do have one more I need to remove, and would love a suggestion so I don't screw it up, or strip it out.

They’re just 4-48 screws; replaced mine with
Magnum Air Power ones and my Don Cothran breeches do come equipped with a Phillips type.

Pretty common hardware size with slot or Phillips head, just turn/reduce the head to fit breech.

Clamp it or squeeze it before you unscrew it to reduce pressure.

The OEM one uses a too tiny a wrench——not good  at all

Like Richard says - clamp it or at least hold it tight when unscrewing in order to reduce pressure as much as possible.  And when reinstalling, make sure you don't over torque it.  Make sure your transfer port is lined up properly and then gently spin it in. I keep a few on hand to make it less likely to need a new one...
