Way to go Mike! How do you like the Stormrider compared to your Maximus?

John, both rifles have good points:
The Maximus has been proven to be deadly accurate. It is durable and light to carry. Also, it came with the sling studs. I was doing bicycle hunts and longer walking hunts when I got the Maximus.
The Stormrider is shaping up to be a good shooter - I just need to spend more time with the girl. It is light to carry but would need studs before a sling could be fitted. However, that is not a big concern where I am hunting now. The Stormrider's
BIG +
is the multi-shot feature. I probably would not have been able to hit either of the squirrels today [since I had missed both on the first try.]
It would be hard to choose between the two; but, I would go with the Stormrider.
Thanks for the reply, John; and good shooting to you.

May 23, 2018 - Wednesday
I was in the woods before it got light - cool and calm - I figured it is a good day for hunting.
I was hunting in the north end of the woods [away from Canyon Land.] The first one I saw was too far to shoot. As I looked around, I saw another to my right. I squirmed around and dropped it with a clean head shot. After reloading, I started to walk over to pick it up - my phone chimed 6:00 a.m.
I stayed where it had fallen and sat on a rock. About 15 minutes, #2 got out on a naked limb and received a JSB to the head. It also, dropped and was dead when I got to it. Two shots, two kills.
I saw several more; but those were the only ones that I got to shoot. About 8:30 a.m., the woods had settled down to stillness and the breeze started to blow. At 9:00 a.m., I was on my way back to the house.
It seems that I am getting comfortable with the Stormrider.

John, you got that right.
Now that school is out for the Summer here, my Judy and I may get a little break from early morning trips to bring the grandsons to school. That will give us some time for home chores and
COOKING
! One of those two things is my favorite. Can you guess which one!
Thanks for you kind reply.

No Spring season in GA for squirrels so very envious of your spring hunts. Congrats on a couple nice greys.

Thanks for the good words, Steve. Tennessee isn't that far away - cross the state line and get a few Grays from Tennessee. Yes, you will want to buy an "Out-of-State" license.
Brett, Murfreesboro was not the same until you got back - there was a "disturbance in the force". Thanks for your reply.

Very tempting Mike. I have to be in Pigeon Forge on June 5th and over in Brentwood on the 6th. Tempted to throw the M16 in the trunk and hang around for another day.

Great bunch of shooting on those last couple of hunts you've had, I had to catch up on you're thread. To get the grays here I need to go north about 40 miles north/east to Yankee Springs, there's a lot of them there but there's not many fox squirrels. I've got two fox squirrels in the freezer, maybe I'll take one out right now and fry him up tomorrow.

Wayne, squirrel for lunch/dinner sounds like a great idea. But I have a full day today - So the squirrel meal will have to wait for the weekend. And by doing it that way, my son will be able to join me.
Enjoy your meal.

Yeah, I know this is supposed to be a Tennessee hunting thread - but I could not resist doing a little bragging on my brother. He finished off his Louisiana Spring Squirrel Season at 8:00 a.m. yesterday [Saturday] after shooting the limit (3). As you can see, he is using a Discovery with a very attractive leather sling. That is the Discovery .22 that I bought in 2013 from Pyramyd Air and hunted with for three season before it became his rifle.
Those squirrels are what I refer to as
Louisiana Fox Squirrels
(
http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/squirrels
) to differentiate them from the
Eastern Fox Squirrels
. (
https://www.tn.gov/twra/wildlife/mammals/medium/eastern-fox-squirrel--hunted--.html
)

Great hunting so far Mike!!! I have only got to make it out 2 times so far this spring season. I got 3 fox squirrels and one gray with the .25 condor on the first trip. It didn't last long. It got so hot I was out of the woods by 9:30am. I went this past Sunday and took my .25 crown on it's maiden squirrel voyage. I didn't see a squirrel until 8:30am. I saw one in a tree on the way out and sat down waiting for a good clean shot when another one came out of nowhere and I busted it's bean. The one I was waihing got interested when the other one fell and made the mistake of sticking it's head out from the side of the tree. I put the crosshairs on it's eyeball, squeezed the trigger and down it fell. Both were fox squirrels. That's the only two I saw that trip. The end of the spring season is rapidly approaching and I don't know if I will get to go again or not, but what I did get to do was pure fun..Keep on working on them Mike!!!

Eddie, you said "pure fun"; and I agree 100%. You had some very nice kill there. You and your rifles are very accurate.
I am loving the woods where I hunt except for the little crawly bugs. I am currently looking for sulphur powder because the Deet stuff isn't keeping them off of me - the TICKS I mean! And these woods have many more Gray Squirrels that Fox Squirrels - but that is okay by me.
Thanks for the reply.

Mike, you might try treating your clothing with permitherin along with using deet. You can get several washings before needing to treat again.

I agree with John Mike. Pymethryne is what I use too. Don't ever get ticks or chiggers. You should try it. Spray your clothes the night before so it can dry. Good Luck!!!
