I have a new-to-me Daystate Air Wolf that is set up for FT with a 8-32x54 Hawke scope on medium rings and a parallax ring. I bought a top-opening Plano after seeing one at the range, but the scope and ring are about an inch too tall. I'm looking for suggestions for a reasonable (<~$100) hard case that will accommodate the 40.5" long rifle and 11" tall scope/ring. I've seen Pelicans and they're great, but with foam they're about $270. I should add that I plan to store the gun in the case as well as carry it. I live in a fairly dry climate, so moisture shouldn't much of an issue.

A lot of us use that case and address the clearance issue by using a non typical NOT ROUND side wheel on our scopes.
That being Eliptical, Comma, or Nautilus profiles that drop below the turret height when rotated down.
Doing so a FT rigged gun fits rights in ;)

I bought it after seeing it at a match and really liking the configuration, so it was pretty frustrating when it didn't fit. I can get the two end latches latched, but didn't want to press down on the turret to get the middle one latched, but maybe it's supposed to be a tight fit?
My wheel is elliptical, and the top of it in its lowest position is even with the elevation turret, but both hit the top of the case. I even took off the wheel thinking that was the problem initially, but the turret hits. Maybe I just need to scrunch down the padding?

Pending stock shape and if or not the rifle is resting on the floor of case and not upon some padding ???
Or ... take a hole saw and place a hole in roof of case for turret clearance

Check out the Contico 52" Hard Plastic Gun Case,
It has 11" free space inside with 4 snap locks, and a carrying handle,
I use all the time to carry 2 firearms and still have plenty of room,
and they are tuff. And are airplane approved/acceptable.

Do you really think storing a gun in foam is a good idea? The foam breaks down, holds dirt and grit, and even if it isn't humid there it can still mold and affect the gun as it breaks down and decomposes.
Maybe rethink how you store guns to promote air circulation?
I keep mine in silicon treated sock-like bags inside a heavy doored concrete walled closet space with double locks and a dehumidifier.

I thought about the hole in the top, but think I'll mess with padding first--the butt is cradled in foam, and there's about 1" at the bottom that if I remove it will give enough room to fully close and latch the lid.

I wonder about foam degrading. I guess I could build a rack in a closet somewhere, but for two guns I was hoping to just store them in their cases.

Thanks. I like the look of the Contico cases. An initial search didn't turn up a place to buy them, though. Will keep looking if I can't get the Plano case to work.

I wonder about foam degrading. I guess I could build a rack in a closet somewhere, but for two guns I was hoping to just store them in their cases.
High quality foam, NO PROBLEM. :D ;) :D

Thanks. Looks like both are out of stock currently, but the SKBs look really nice (just not $260 nice). Will cruise around the Natchez site and see what else I can find.

Ended up with a Plano 42" All Weather case for $80 locally. It's a snug fit for the Air Wolf, but I'm pretty impressed with it, and it has plenty of room for pellets, etc. in the "pick and pluck" foam area. The only downside is the weight--it is quite substantial.

The top-opening case will be used for my P-Rod carbine. It's too big for that gun, but again there's plenty of space to hold other range items.
