A 20" bicycle tube works best. If it's new, don't clean the dusting of talc off - it will help you get it on/off for fitting and trimming. Use one of the "seams" (i.e., molded ridges) on the tube to align it with a convenient line on the gun (say, the line between the clamshells). That will let you place it in the same position every time. Before final assembly clean off the talc. It will take some work to get it on, but it won't slip.
