Title: St. Louis area indoor airgun silhouette shoots
Post by: mobilemail on February 01, 2017, 08:17:36 PM
Here are the dates and details for the St. Louis Benchrest airgun silhouette shoots.  I think there is a minimal fee, like $5 or something, and I'm told it's quite informal and fun. Y'all come!

Benchrest Rifle Club, 2280 Kohn Rd, Wright City, MO 63390, USA    http://www.shootingstl.com/air-rifle.html (http://www.shootingstl.com/air-rifle.html)

2-26
3-26
4-23
5-7
Off for summer
9-24
10-8
We start sight in at 1:30. Shoot at 2:00 usually done by 4:30

NRA - Air Guns In Silhouette Competition
Any air rifle weighing no more than 16 lbs. may be used in the Open Air Rifle class. Any
unaltered factory target air rifle may be used in the Target Air Rifle class. The Sporter Air Rifle
class includes any unaltered factory air rifle weighing less than 11 lbs., complete. Any caliber
may be used in Air Pistol and Air Rifle Silhouette competition up to .22 caliber, and may be fired
indoors as well as outdoors.

Stl Bench Rest Rifle Club - Silhouette Range Facilities
Air Rifle Silhouette is like a scaled down rimfire silhouette match.  It consists of two rounds of 40 animals; ten each of chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams. We shoot this indoors standing freehand in the large building.

but as of yet we still do not have enough room to shoot all the animals at the official NRA distances so we are shooting chickens at 10 yards and pigs at 15 yards and turkeys at 23 yards and rams at 30 yards.

We allow 177 and 22 cal air rifles and pistols and we try to keep the feet per second down to under 1000fps to keep from damaging our targets and backstops.

After shooting two 40rd matches of silhouette we shoot one round of 25 yard Benchrest for those who want to compete.

Do you have to use airrifles that are raited1000 fps or can you use one that shoots 1000 fps or slower useing lead pellets?

Slower air rifles are just fine.

Unless something has changed, tomorrow is the next indoor silhouette shoot!

I think this will be an opportunity for me to embarrass myself!   :P :D

Who's going?

Hello Mark....

How are ya?   Keeping well I hope.(?)   Gee, I guess I should have been paying much more attention that I have been... missed this shoot by over two months now... sheesh! :( :-[  So... did you make it to the shoot?..... and did you "embarrass yourself" as you thought you might? lol.... probably Not.  ;D

I haven't heard "boo" from Lobo, after his planned shoot fizzled... have written him, but no reply.

My wife say's "maybe we should host a shoot here at our place"..... hmmmm, we'll have to see what next spring brings... hopefully and the Lord willing, it won't be a repeat (or worse) of last springs weather... but the way things are going on around this planet anymore, who knows WHAT we could wake up to from one morning to the next,  so we'll just have to wait and see... but we could host a shoot.

I went to the link for the St.Louis Benchrest Club, and noticed that Shane Seals is the contact person for the Airgun Shoots.... he's the one that had (still does??) the indoor 10M shoots at his shop in Josephville every Friday morning a few years back... and of which, I told you about.. and you went to on your way through on I-70 one time, if I remember correctly(?). ???

So.... how did you fair out at the St.Louis shoot that you mentioned here,  back in Oct.?   Was it well attended?

Seems like a fair drive from here to there, but if they're shooting for about 4 hours (6pm to 10pm?) every other Monday... it might be worth the drive for us.... I think it's probably about 4hrs drive just to get there(!!).... they still have the indoor 10M shoot every Thursday evening (6pm to 10pm-ish) at the E.Tulsa, OK. Gun Club facilities, and I think it's about a 2 hr. drive from here... I have their card, will have to call them and see if they're still at it.... haven't been there since spring of 2016.

Well... if I don't hear back from you before Christmas... A Merry and Blessed Christmas to you and your's.

Take care and may you always hit what you're aiming at. ;D

Merry Christmas backatcha!

As fortune would have it, here are the winter dates for the airgun silhouette shoots at St. Louis Benchrest:

Sunday 1-14, Tuesday 1-30, Sunday 2-4, Tuesday 2-20, Tuesday 3-6, Sunday 3-18, Tuesday 4-3, Sunday 4-15, Tuesday 5-8

Sundays Sight in will start @ 12:00 and the match @ 1:00 and should be over @ 3:00

On Tuesdays sight in will start @ 6:00 and the match @ 7:00 and end @ 9:00

Anyone coming who isn't affiliated with the club is advised to look up the contact on the St. Louis benchrest club website and give a call before hitting the road.  Weather, calamity, or club-related changes may cause a short -notice cancellation, don't get caught off-guard!

I have been at the Friday morning shoots at Josephville Gun and Machine a few times now....and as fortune would have it I plan to be there tomorrow.

As for the St. Louis shoot I may or may not have attended (because my memory is...poor), I cannot give a specific report.  But if I followed my typical performance trajectory, my performance was.... meh.   :o :P

Hello again.. ;D

Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it Mark.... and thank you for the winter schedule,  yes we (my wife & I) would definitely be sure of the weather and any possible schedule changes at the club before leaving here... but, more than likely we will probably Not even plan on heading over that way for a shoot once winter has officially settled in... with nearly 8 hours total driving time to there and back... there's just too many miles and hours involved for bad weather conditions to suddenly set in.... and to be at the shoot for only about three hours, really is not worth it to go that far at this time of year, and we don't know anyone over that way, that we could visit with while we would be over that way... or perhaps even to shoot with.

Well... you sure answered my question as to whether or not Shane was still hosting shoots at his shop in Josephville on Fridays anymore... IF, you get this before you head over there in the morning... and IF you happen to think of it,  Please tell him "Hi" from Jim & Cindy from down by Forsyth, MO. - where we were living at the time, I think it was back in 2014 already.

We were only there one time, and because we drove the distance to get there (5hrs!), they held a second shoot on Saturday morning in "our honor" .. we will never forget them for doing that... what a Great bunch of guys.. and Gals there, really a neat bunch of folks, and we had a great time with them... and considering going back again soon, weather permitting.    I will have to see if I can find his phone number so I can give Shane a call, in the near future...... Hmmm, would You happen to have Shanes phone number by any chance?

Well Mark... have a GREAT time over there with Shane and everyone there, let me know how you did.... we didn't do too well when we went, but we were Both, Very new in the sport at the time... and it was our very first "shoot"... but it was a great time.

Hope to hear from you soon.... anxious to hear how you fared against all those "crack shooters" over there in Josephville. ;D

Take Care,
Jim

Hi - I know this is an old post, but I am new to the GTA forum and just surfing around. I hit the website link for St Louis Benchrest Club and it looks like the silhouette shoots are still being conducted, now on Monday evenings, 6 to 10 pm. Have you been going recently?
