My knowledge is limited to browsing around on various merchant website. Here is one that has a LOT of stuff; FWB, Anschutz, Walther and more: www.champchoice.com .

What model FWB do you have? I'm jealous.

Stinger177 -

If you want to learn more about 10 meter, go take the NRA Level 1 Rifle Coach School (Smallbore and Air) over a weekend.

You'll get the straight techniques and learn all about 10 meter three position air rifle.

I took it a year ago, and and now am working on my USA Shooting Coach Academy - Advanced Coach Rifle Cert.  I volunteer and coach 4-H, but I shoot 10 meter at home 3 to 4 times a week and love it.

Also, here is a great book on the subject:  http://www.champchoice.com/store/main.aspx?p=ItemDetailOptions&item=WR100

Some guys golf. Some guys shoot off the bench. I shoot 3 position for fun.

I also hunt and do IDPA, but 3 position air rifle is very good training and also very calming for me.

I wish it were more popular in the US.  So, it comes as no surprise than many guys that shoot air rifle do not know a lot about it.

Also, did you know that you can shot 3 Position Sporter without all the jackets, pants, and cost and have a blast?

My sporter 10 meter air rifle is Crosman Challenger and I use the Peep Sights that come on it.  $595.  Lol.  I own 2 of them.  My son shoots a CZ T200, which is deadly accurate.

Here are the rules and regs for 3 position sporter:  http://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/Rules.pdf

Do you know who Lones Wigger is?  He is one of the most decorated 3 position athletes in history.  Wigger became the only athlete to win medals in all three Olympic rifle shooting disciplines and was selected as one of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s 100 Golden Olympians in 1996.

He served two tours in Vietnam.  What a legacy.

Enjoy!  Thanks for the post everyone's replies.

Stinger177:
Thank you very much Fletch. There is so little information out there. This gives me a good direction.

A friend asked me why I don't join a shooting club. Fact is, there are none in the Denver area that shoot airguns, even though their website may say they do. Admittedly, I have only tried contacting by email and by phone (meaning I haven't physically gone to the location) but I have never received a reply.

At least now I can practice the proper technique in my backyard given the info you listed.

Thanks again,

Dennis   :D

Sounds good Dennis.  Get the book - it is great.  Study a position.  Get in the position.  Shoot the position.  Rinse.  Repeat. Enjoy.

Don't forget the Air Rifle book

SSP is fine.
The reason most are not using SSP is due to the extra muscle force needed to charge the SSP.  It activates muscles that you want to be calm.  And depending on the rifle, the charging action can be disruptive on the stance.
If you plan to shoot 3P, CA or CO2 is the recommended power.  Depending on the rifle, charging a SSP would be disruptive on the prone and kneeling positions, making you break position to charge the rifle.
But for home use, who cares, use what you have/want to.

A few thought for casual home shooting.
- If you get a full size 10m rifle, it will be about 11 pounds.  That can be hard on the lower back, especially if you are older.  A shooting jacket or back support belt would be highly advised.
- - I use a back support belt from the hardware store.  But that belt is NOT competition legal.

- For home use, without the jacket or belt, I would look at a lighter (junior) rifle, like the Crosman Challenger 2009 or the new Daisy 599 (CA), or a Daisy 853 (SSP), or even a junior precision rifle.
- - The only negative that I have heard about the Crosman Challenger 2009, is that the air tank is undersized, and may not last a full match, requiring an air refill in the middle of a match.
- - The 853 is available from the CMP for about $100.  BUT, the stock has a 12 inch LoP.  If you have a longer LoP, you have to lengthen the stock.
- - A FWB, Anshutz or Walther junior precision rifle would also work; like the FWB-P70-Jr.  Lighter than a full size rifle, so easier on the back.
