The short column has come in!! OAL is a little longer than I like, but it's not a big deal... 32" w/o the saddle in place, with the tripod fully collapsed.
TomWhat is that Manfroto piece of equipment between the top of the tripod plate and the collar of the short column? Can't quite tell what it is.........Do you need that there? If you could remove that piece and drop the short collar head down on the top of the tripod head, you would loose several inches etc.Your hand grip provides all the 3 axis controls you need, I would believe...........Does your tripod flatten out to 3.5" tall (AGL)? I had to shorten my center column to get within 6" height etc.Tia,Don
Thanks TomI kinda thought that was the case, just couldn't be sure etc.You might able to remove that tilting head and machine a larger flat plate for the short column,to sit down flat against the tripod head, that is what I did to get as short as possible etc.Tia,Don
Would something like this work? Replace my big lense bracket with your pistol grip.
TomYour tripod is a newer model than mine, (055 & 3021 and one other that my son is using now). When I modded the center column, IIRR, I popped the bottom bracket/stop off the center column, and removed it out the top, there was a center section/collar that allows the center piece to revolve, and the thumb screw to lock the column down, when needed.I turned a flat piece of some type of Black Teflon type of plastic, to fit O/S diameter and I/S diameter, which allowed less than - .005" of play, reinserted the shorten column into it's normal place, and then reattached the bottom stop etc.Are you sure that the tilting head/section won't detach from the center column, via a set screw or drift pin etc.then it would be easy to shorten up, could even chuck it up and lathe turn it down, to get rid of the sloping angle etc.Have you remove the thumb lock and lifted the center piece out and checked around the hidden base/lip?
