So that's what it takes to lure Frank out of the shadows? Eggs, huh?
OK -we'll bring eggs next time!
It was a lot of fun for me even though I didn't turn any cards in, I wasn't mentally prepared and besides my guns did compete but in someone else's hands

Jeff, thanks for the kind word!
The FWB 300S is very self-consistent even with unsorted JSB Express pellets and a $90 duplex scope. Compensating for wind is really the name of the game on that day. I was shooting next to Matt with his really fancy wind indicators, that helped a lot!
Now that I know wind plays such a significant role shooting in Ione, I think I am going to invest in some wind indicator myself. Already have some idea of how to make a few DIY units for BR and a portable one (attached to rifle) for FT.

I'm new to this parallel universe. Darn if I didn't have a family commitment that took precedence over this meet. Otherwise I would have been there watching, drooling and pestering everyone with newbie questions.
Is there some sort of air gun shooting organization in the southern Sacramento Valley?

Thanks for the kind word, Scott! I learned a lot about the effect of wind on slow and light pellets that day. As you said, it was the best way to learn how to shoot more effectively in FT matches (and other shooting situations!). The FWB 300S is very consistent by itself, and as such, a good learning tool.

I would like to share a little more about shooting on that day
. This may or may not work with you, YMMV!
I shot with both eyes open. Right eye to aim, and left eye to keep an eye on (Matt's) wind indicators. Wind direction was changing so rapidly that it could change between sighting and pulling the trigger. I think this helped me change my POA a few times just in time.
It was actually easier to correct for strictly cross wind compared to tail wind! Given the same cross wind intensity, the pellets drift pretty much by the same amount. In the strongest cross wind, I had to put the POA one full circle from the bull's eye.
Tail wind did not always drop the POI. I think the drop of POI was not proportional to the intensity of tail wind. There was an "optimal" tail wind intensity that dropped the POI more than lesser or strong tail wind. Don't know how to quite quantify that, yet.
Wind indicators are very helpful! I'll make some for the next competition. According to Chairgun, tail/head wind should not have much effect on the POI at 25 meters, not nearly as much as cross wind. However, quoting Matt, down/up draft was significant at least at this shooting range. That probably explains quite a few misses in the FT matches!
Hope someone finds this useful for the next match.

I was shooting my FWB300 at the very end of the line of shooters, the farthest from the wind indicators. I noticed that you couldn't always trust them from my position. I saw several shots go the OPPOSITE way as the indicators showed. Since I'm shooting slow speed and feel no recoil, I could watch many pellets strike the targets and definitely saw more than a couple go the wrong way. Only after a few moments would I start to see the indicators catch up to what I was seeing on paper. As you can imagine, that made things pretty tricky. I should have taken more sighters between targets to test actual conditions more often. At least I know now not to believe all that I see unless its right where I am.
