Lightning compressor gets its first annual maintenance

The end of this month marks a year of ownership on my Lightning compressor. This will be the first oil change, coolant drain and refill, and eventually the opening up of the gold filter. I just talked with Shane over at Hatsan USA yesterday, and he did let me know that there is a desiccant type of media that also needs replacing inside the aluminum block that the fill whip attaches to. I need to research the type of desiccant. He said something called aluma something. I should’ve wrote it down, dangit!
Anyway, the old oil didn’t look bad, had no smell, or any floating debris. I already got rid of it, and in hindsight I should’ve sent a sample in to black stone labs and had an analysis done. Maybe next time.
The coolant was also in good shape. I’m sure glad I took a label maker a year ago and printed up oil and coolant capacities, ratios, etc., as it made this process so very quick and easy. I hate having to thumb thru instructions to find out what type and how much.
Lastly, knowing how heavy this compressor is, I planned on a slick way to drain the coolant. All parts from the plumbing dept at Home Depot.

Thank you, Knife. Ya, knock on wood, I only had two problems with it since ownership, and Hatsan USA was always quick to send me the parts to replace the faults- a leaking fill whip and the digital gage has a minus button that would never pop back up after it got depressed. Both the gage and whip were sent out to me and all I had to provide was a proof of purchase date.
