Hi all,
After discussing the fun shoot with the folks at the range, we have decided on a date. The fun shoot is scheduled for August 12th at Hickory Hills Rod and Gun Club in Plainfield, IL. We have a rain-check day for August 19th. I'll only push it back if the chance of severe weather is high; a little rain never hurt anybody. Of course, more information will be provided closer to the shoot, but the gist of it is as follows:
1) I'll be there Friday night and camping overnight myself. Anyone is allowed to camp on site Friday night, but we ask that you provide a donation to the club if you choose to do so. Camping will not be allowed Saturday night. There is space for a few small campers, but not many. Please give me a heads up if you're planning on bringing a camper so I can plan out where you will go.
2) I'll be grilling and providing food on Saturday. Hot dogs and burgers are likely. (I'm open to suggestions!) They will be priced to cover the cost of food and plates and such. If enough folks are camping, we can work out breakfast as well.
3) I have a few targets and such, but it would probably be wise if you brought your own too. (Start saving cans!)
A Re-iteration of Relevant club rules:
1) Any air rifle is acceptable to shoot. Any powder-burner is not. The two concerns are noise and bullet travel. Anything we're shooting will be fine.
2) Eyes are required when on the shooting line.
3) Please don't bring a rifle you aren't legally allowed to own (I.E. If you have a "firearm" air rifle by state law but no FOID).
4) No hunting.
5) Adult beverages are allowed, but you're done shooting once you start consuming.

I can bring some of the fun targets - necco wafers, dum-dums, army men, etc. They are always a hoot. I have a couple auto reset targets for sub 20fpe, and a couple heavier targets that should be good up to 60fpe.

also, for those with pcps, there is a scuba shop in downtown plainfield about 3 miles away from the rod and gun club. they are open saturdays 10am to 5pm.

Thanks Joe for setting this up. I just ran across the announcement. I have never been to a shoot so I'm looking forward to being there to meet everyone. I'm a rookie at shooting AG's but I have 4 now since 6/'16. I'll be bringing a 12x12 popup canopy just in case we need it. I might drive down Friday to spend the night (no camper). I'm about 40 minutes away, south west side of Aurora IL. Let me know if I can bring anything also. It will be good to put some faces to your posts! Cheers, Dave

Breaking news - my 83YO mom is going home Friday after a knee surgery, this may put a huge kink in my plans. She wasn't originally supposed to come home until after the weekend. Stay tuned for further developments...

There's a couple of toilets, a stove and oven, drinking water by the gallon, a soda can vending machine, chairs, and maybe a few other things. There is no printer or wi-fi; what is this, 2017?
Regardless of what I may have said earlier there will be NO breakfast Saturday morning. There will be lunch and dinner, however.
Anyone that has targets to bring should bring them. Soup cans are appreciated. I've got a big box of paint balls waiting to be shot and a resetting flip-up target to shoot at. I've also got a couple of stands for taping paper targets to and there's plenty of wood on site to jimmy-up something if we need another stand to hold targets. There will also likely be a load of broken pigeons that we can shoot at, and worst case scenario we buy a box of fresh ones from the club for ~$10.
What's the list look like for Friday night campers? What's the list look like for attendance overall?

Me? I don't live in Galena. Just had a vacant lot in the Territory and spent a lot of time fishing there. I'm only an hour and a half or so north of the Hickory Hills club.

I have downloaded the spreadsheet from 'Triggertreat' onto my laptop. If someone wants to bring their Chrony I'll provide the computer to input your data at the shoot. I can also bring a printer for a hard copy, or I will email the file to you after the shoot. If we don't have a Chrony at the shoot I'll just forget the computer stuff.
Yep... 2017 all year! Time to upgrade the equipment at the club?

We'll have to wait until it's there to figure out where it should go. There hasn't been rain in a while, but part of the range can flood sometimes and stay that way for a while, shifting the "line."

You mentioned hot dogs and hamburgers. Should we bring a side dish? Is there somewhere near by to get food if we take 55 to 126?

RIGHT, well....
Thing is I've been sick all week and I've STILL got a stuffy nose. I don't think I should be handling food for y'all this weekend. I'm planning on getting sandwich platters for lunch and pizza for dinner. You're certainly welcome to bring anything you like to add that that though!

Sorry i didnt make it out today. Was having some back problems. I will be at the next one.

left the house at 7am and arrived at 750am. found joe sleeping in his car as he had spent the night in a tent and was a bit chilled. set up the canopy, table, and shooting station and began filling aluminum cans with water and placing them down range. it was some time before smaug2 showed up and we had already killed many of the cans, but no worries, i still had about another 60 in the bag.
next to arrive was dave from nearby aurora, and then mr. and mrs. tater. joe had a friend stop by and let me tell you, that young man was a natural. he was new to air guns and he picked up the gamo underlever and showed us all how to shoot! a club member erroneously judged us to be expert shots and no apparent danger, and decided to drive down range while we were shooting.
joe went to town and returned with a platter of jimmie john sandwiches and drinks, and we set to clearing that platter.
my tank was showing 2,000 psi so i drove to the busy dive shop to have it topped off and was back in less than 30 minutes. the sun was bearing down on us but the breeze kept us comfortable and constantly judging it when placing rounds down range.
the range is also used for trap shooting and the broken clay pigeons made good reactive targets when set up.
our host, joe, is a young man just venturing into the airgun world, but he does his research and already is quite knowledgeable of the sport.
if you have the chance to make it to the next shoot, by all means, go. where else can you kill cans, toys, paintballs, unripe crabapples, and steel rabbits with friendly people with the same interest?

Huge thanks to Joe for hosting the fun shoot. Met some good people today, had a lot of fun and the weather was great. The shooting area was perfect too (as Carl mentioned).

I just spent the day bragging to the club big-wigs what a fun time we had yesterday. There was a bit of talk about making air gun parties a regular thing here. There's even the potential for the club to buy us some targets. Much remains to be seen and discussed, but there's potential for even more fun on the horizon!
A big thanks to everyone for everyone for coming out! Hopefully we can get an even bigger group out next time!

I was sad to have missed it. If you thrown another shindig I'll try to keep my mother healthy long enough for me to attend! :-)
BTW, her transition back into her home went without incident, and healing is going as planned.

Great to hear Joe! Nice that there will be future events, I liked shooting there. Sorry we lost you on the way to the lake. I think we passed it and didn't see where you turned off. Oh well, next time.

Brian joined Saturday (he was shooting with us) and Tom saw the posts and inquired about future shoots in Plainfield. Tom lives in Naperville and just got a new AA TX200 177 in Walnut. I'm sure he wants to attend any future shoot there since he is so close. Great job. Dave
