Title: Would love your opinion.

New rifle, Seneca Aspen .25 needs an optic. I turned 60 last year and the old eyesight is a bit worse for wear. Open sights really aren't an option anymore and besides, this rifle has none! Every rifle I own, both Powder burners and air I have put a scope on. With one exception, a PCC I own has a red dot. I kind of like it. I know the main selling point of a dot is quick target acquisition, not so much pin point accuracy. So here is my question. Should I put a dot on the Aspen or stick with a scope? If I go with a dot, how far out could I expect to be able to reliably hit a small squirrel sized target?

My use of dots is 30 yards and under. Rather use a low power scope in most cases.

Just bought a Athlon Argos 2-12x42 with lighted dot reticle. The scope has a very forgiving eye box, its super bright/clear & has a very wide FOV even on top end. It kinda offers the best of both worlds IMO.

When I bought my Aspen I put a UTG 3x12x44 snipper scope on it. I was very happy with the scope. Not so much the Aspen.
