I am thinking of getting an SCBA tank to fill my marauders and have located a 45min tank with 3.5 years left that needs hydro for $140. What is the going rate for this type of tank?

I paid $120 for a 80 cu. ft tank, it had a new hydro. I think I got a good deal. It's the only one I've ever purchased, so I don't know. It was kinda banged up, but it works fine. The Dive Shop refills it for $5.00.

Buy it for now and save money to get a SB to fill it after the hydro runs out.

CF tanks sell @ 30$ per year remaining or something like that.

hey-hey!!!,
I have seen used tanks go for nutsy prices on a 'per year' cost basis. Do the math; it is really simple. Start with a new 15 year CF tank, add two hodro costs, add shipping and divide by its lifespan, should be 15 years ) to get a cost per year...it will be *AROUND* 40 for 15 year tanks, and about 3/4 of that for 30 year tanks. Do the same thing for the used...does it need a hydro now? add all the potential cost up and divide by its remaining lifespan.
If buying new, confirm the stock isn't aged on the shelf. You don't want to pay for 15 years and get 14 or maybe less...(on this I am absolutely *NOT* pointing any fingers, just offering a possible warning as there are lots of sources and you ought to be able to ask about what you're buying at any of them ).
Just remember, there is nothing complicated. used tanks are occaisionally demand driven out of line; the used supply is not consistent enough. When you see a good deal take it and during a dry spell you can recover your money if it turns out to be surplus to your needs. if I needed one quickly and didn't find it instantaneously at firesale prices I'd just see Tim; he's been a straight shooter in this line of work for a loooong time.
cheers,
Douglas

Thank you all for the advice. I did find a good deal on some tanks and picked up five 45cf 4500psi tanks still in hydro. Got them yesterday and had them filled today. Cant say I'm going to miss the hand pumping
