Has anyone used a CO2 beverage tank for bulk-filling

I have a friend that gave me one of the CO2 tanks that are used by the local soft-drink distributors for their drink dispensors. Has anyone ever used one of these? My question is whether they have a siphon or just draw the gas off the top?
I was thinking that with summer approaching, I might return one of my QB's to a bulk fill status and take advantage of free CO2. He told me he would get my bottle filled for FREE!!! Now if I can figure out how to use it. Any ideas, guys?
This is what it looks like:
thanks

I'm very familiar with those tanks, having worked in the beverage industry for several years (2004-2007).
Might be a bit of a pain getting it adapted over to airgun use, but as long as you don't exceed the normal operating pressure of the airgun in question, it would probably work pretty well, if a bit unwieldy.

Scott, I was thinking of using it to fill my 20oz paintball tanks with co2 and then carrying these with me in the truck to refill my QBs on those extended shooting sessions away from home. Do you think these 20lb beverage tanks have any use for what I want to do? Do they have the standard cga-320 fitting?
thanks, bro

Sorry to say I don't know about the fitting size at all.
My experience was limited to ensuring they were filled as needed and making sure the lines were undamaged.
Anymore, they are only used as backup tanks in case the bulk CO2 tanks (400lbs or more) run low.
Sorry

I fill my paint ball tanks off my buddies beer keg fridge tank. My local fire & safety guy has CO2 tanks of all sizes. He even set me up with a hose adapter.

Looks like all you need is this for the 20# CGA-320 valve

Thanks Bentong, I wondered if one of those would be what I needed. How do I find out if the tank has a siphon?

You can use a beverage co2 tank.
BUT...they do not have a syphon, so you have to turn them upside down to get the liquid co2. That is doable up to a 10 pound tank. I would not turn a 20 pound tank upside down w/o it being in a cradle of some sort, to prevent dropping the tank. Dropping a tank = DANGER. You do NOT want to break off the valve. :-(
It should not cost you much to get a syphon installed in the tank.
Then mark the tank, so when you refill it, you get YOUR tank (with the syphon) back.

Yes, that is what I was worried about. I can make a cradle, no problem, but I just want to be safe as well. Thanks guys.
Aack, pm on the way.

I have one of those. It was given to me by a friend. I thought about doing the same thing to it.
I've been keeping it in my workshop, in case of fire. If I have a fire, I'll open the valve and point it at the base of the fire. Maybe run away, too.

w/o a cradle you want a syphon in the tank.
w a cradle, you need to SECURE it to the wall so the tank is upside down, so you can the the liquid co2.
I hope you shoot a LOT. That is when you save $ over buying co2 cartridges.

I've actually thought about selling off all my CO2 bulk fill accoutrement and paintball tanks. I'm considering going strictly PCP/HPA with my QBs. Especially after seeing what Jack Haley does with a QB. Phenomenal.
I can pump air for free. I can get scuba tanks filled for $6.00.
I need a cascading setup.

I thought I had gotten out of the co2 business but up pops this tank and the figuring and thinking starts all over again. With free co2 during warm months, a bulk-filled QB not only makes a lot of sense but offers a lot of shooting with very little filling. I'll try to let everyone know how its going when I get Aack's filler setup.
