Title: Vintage Pumper, Modern Pumper, and VEE Match #4 Year 18/19
Post by: Hoosier Daddy on January 18, 2019, 06:21:27 PM
OK Marty here is our chance!

Come one, Come all!
Vintage Pumper, Modern Pumper, and Vintage Everything Else Casual Match #4 is open for business. The Casual Match is a fun match. Shoot whatever Vintage Pumper, Modern Pumper, or Vintage Everything Else gun (see below) that you want at 10M (more or less depending on what you have available), use any position, rest or optic that you prefer. See below for the details.

Because this is a relatively new match started late last season, with hopefully New members not familiar, detailed rules are below so we don’t have to keep referring to the 50’ Casual rules (mostly copied from the 50' Casual rules).
Remember, this is the "honor system" and the object is to have fun.

Rules:
- Distance is 10M.  If you are limited to distance, shoot at whatever distance you have available.
- Any position you like including bench rest, prone, sitting, kneeling, mono pod, bi pod, etc...
- Any scope or open sights, red dot, shooting from the hip, whatever…
- Targets are the same as for the regular 50’ Casual Match and can be found at http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=114644.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=114644.0)

 Classes are:
•   Vintage Pumper (VP) (as defined in the Vintage Gate – manufactured pre-1993)
•   Modern Pumper (MP) (Manufactured after 1992)
•   Vintage Everything Else (VEE) (as defined in the Vintage Gate – manufactured pre-1993)

Please turn in a scan or picture of the scored, dated target. If you want to show off your gun, then by all means, include a picture of it too.

Target due date is Sunday, 1/27/19

Please include the following information with your entry (The best way is to copy the info below and paste it back in to your reply):

Call name or real name
Class (VP, MP, VEE)
Air rifle or Pistol Make and Model (e.g., Sheridan Super Grade)
Sighting system
Pellet and caliber
Shooting position and/or aid(s)
Score

Shoot straight, be safe and have FUN!

Scott

Oops... now I'm committed.

Thanks for the hard work Scott. Maybe I should link it to the Vintage Gate to see if we can light a fire under those couch potatoes? ;)

Thanks for putting these things together.

10yds. a bit rushed so I didn't move the bench back to 10M. That thing is heavy too.

Daisy 853, CP 4-16x40 glass, R-10 pellets
I scored it at 222 (if i did it right.)

Edit: Shot using the rolled up carpet in the pic as a front rest...the caldwell sandbag is way better but left it behind in the hurry.

P.O.I., here is rule number 5; 5)(a) 2 shots at each of the 12 major bulls on the scoped sights targets, drop the lowest  2 scoring bulls for a total possible score of 200/200.

In other words a total of 2 separate groups must be canceled or x'd out. Your score total is based on the remaining score totals.

Scott can verify but here's my take; if you drop your two lowest scoring bulls your score would be; 198/200 & 6X. A 10 is counted if any portion of the dot is touched. A "X" replaces a "10" if the dot is completely taken out. Great shooting & that's on heck of a shooting set up!

Thanks for the personal scoring lesson Marty.  I am pretty happy with your version  8).  I am gonn print it up to see what scores what in a minute.  Really appreciated.

As well as the kind words on the 853.  The stock is real pretty grain with some great vertical mineral stripes that are almost iridescent when you move it.   I went through ...2 880s, 1 dragonfly, two cm2100 builds, and an older 760 trying to find one that would do this.  Gotta sell some pumpers now.

We are working off a pic, and you have the original in front of you.
Marty may very well be right, but with what I see, if I were scoring it,,,
The second bull on 1, 3, 9, 10, 11, 12, looks like a 10,
plus it looks like the first bull on 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 should be 10's
AND the is a couple "X" I think...
Working off the scan I would score 198 and 3-X ? :D

Got it Scott. I had scored 10 on the original only on full dot removals so There were five 'x's if remember. Those were 100%. Printer paper kind of tears up bad when taped to cardboard that's already shot up so next time I'll glue a new face before hand.  I did have to set a fresh pellet on the target to do my version.

It's all just for fun.  I will rescore off the original correctly tomorrow AM when I'll be pellet testing and shootin the 392LE for the first time seriously to see how it will do on this.  Printing those targets and casing it up next for the morning now.  She's been a closet queen long enough...maybe 5 pellets through her to date. I think it was a 2007 issue, knew I should have just left it boxed.

Another tip that makes it easier to score is to pick up a ream of cardstock paper.
I got 110 weight from walmart about the same price as printer paper but it punches much cleaner holes.  ;)

Thanks Scott, That sounds like it coiuld help.

Pellet testing took a long time so I lost my window to shoot again for this.  But the good side is that old gun held air for the last ten years or so and it likes CPMUs at max pumps and Meisterkugelns at low for paper.

Good luck guys, look forward to seeing what you use and score.

My final was 198/200 6x

Wadcutters were the only pellets to make a clean hole. I used the pellets to gauge the .22 & .20 cals.

Wow Marty... very nice!
I didn't fair so well. I waited untiul the last night and then ran out of printer ink to print my favorite target  for "peeps". Had to shoot the targets I had printed up already for my scoped .177's. Tough to see and used the first two bulls to sight in so I crossed them out.

Thanks Scott. It was one of those days a guy doesn't want to stop flinging pellets. ;)

:o super sweet Marty!, ...and not bad using a peep either Scott. Iron sight days have passed me by...but I think you'd have had me beat by a good bit even before the peepers went south.

So, anyway, I switched gears and packed away my beauty queen 392 and shot yesterday with this 2019
