Title: 10 Meter Shoot at the Josephville Gun Shop
Post by: Maverick DoorGunner on March 16, 2016, 04:09:04 AM
Hello All,  A few weeks ago, my wife and I took up an offer to come to a weekly 10 meter shoot at the Josephville (MO.) Gun Shop, by its owner... Shane Seals.   For us, it was a nearly 5 hr drive, and wound up getting there nearly an hour after they started, which is at 9am, every Friday... with possible "exceptions"... however rare.

I want everyone to know, that when we arrived... it was like "coming home" !!.... what a Great bunch of guys, there !!.... Really made us feel at home & welcome.    Understand, that my wife and I are really very new to the world of airgunning.... and have Never done "10 meter", so we show up with guns with 4 lbs of trigger pull (+ or -) and all these fellows are shooting guns that all it seems to require for trigger pull, is to simply Blow on the trigger !!!..... wow!, what a difference.... we got "schooled".... but, it was Lots of fun and very relaxed with these fellows, and they were more than happy to let us try different rifles.... Thanks!!

As I said previously, these guys meet Every Friday morning at 9am... and the coffee and donuts are warm and fresh,  however... to give you's an idea of the warm heartedness that prevails there.... they offered to have a Second shoot, on Saturday morning... just because we drove so far to get there !!.... and most of them returned, and one fellow (sorry, forgot his name  :-[) even came back with his wife and son, much to my wifes glee, to help reduce the male to female ratio a tad.  Shanes wife was there on Friday... she's a good shot, to.

To make this "short".... I just want to "publicly" give a BIG - Thank You, to Shane Seals of the Josephville Gun Shop and ALL the fellows that were there, for making my wife & I SO Welcomed to your shoot..... and we ARE looking forward to taking you up on your offer, and returning again, soon.... hopefully, with more suitable "gear".  ;)

If any of you are interested in a Friday morning INDOOR, 10meter shoot, in a VERY relaxed atmosphere.. with a Really Great bunch of air gun enthusiasts...give Shane a call (636-332-5450) and he'll gladly give you directions... which is really pretty easy... exit 212 off I-70 (Wentzville,MO.), go NORTH to the 3rd road (Josephville RD.) on the right, which will be just past the big GM Truck assembly plant which will be on your left, going North & "about" 1 mile from I-70,  then go 2.6 (+ or - a tenth or two) miles where you will come to a "Y" with a SHARP turn to the right and a Machine Shop in the middle of the "Y"...look to your left and keep to the left at the "Y" and immediately turn Left again, into the Josephville Gun Shop yard (grass & gravel).... you will not be sorry that you did, it's a Great time, with an equally Great bunch of guys (& gals) that will really make you feel like your "Home".

This is NOT a heated "competition shoot" in Any sense... it is strictly for "bragging rights"... and purely for the love of shooting air guns, among Friends.... and if your a "stranger".... you only will be, until you walk through the shop door !!        My wife agrees that... it's got to be the most genuinely friendliest gunshop and folks, in the whole state of Missouri... and we will return, asap.

Jim

PS: Shane and his wife have a big / fluffy Alaskan Malmute at the shop........ watch your hand, if it has a Donut in it !!  lol   I forget its name at the moment.... but, it should either be, "Donut".... or "Mooch".... or possibly.... "Donut Mooch"..... "he's a "Character" and really very gentle... but, when it comes to Donuts... he's got a "nose" that the best of Bloodhounds, could only dream of !!    ;D

Good Mornin, Arnold...

Definitely.... if your heading to St. Louis, by all means try and spend a Friday Morning with these guys (mostly)... It's a "Mucho" fun time. They shoot the Gamo targets (5.5" square - 10M) in the Gamo "Cone" type trap.      I put Shanes, Shop ph. number in the post you read below...

Lots of Donuts to munch on, to....  : )

Talk to you, later...

Yes, by all means... at least Slow Down,  before pulling the trigger !!  Wouldn't want ya getting in a wreck and not be able to make it to KY.   ;D

Hmmmmm.... I guess I missed the "red shirt" as it flew right over my head..... :-[           I chose that Avatar, because I couldn't find anything better that I liked..... I did have "Ben & Jerry" (ice cream?) beating each other over the head with sledge hammers.... but, I was beginning to get "spastic" watching them out of the corner of my eye when I was on here,  so I changed it.

I'm going to give them a call this morning over at the Josephville Gun Shop, a little after 9am... just to say "Hi".... and tell them to be sure and give you a hard time if you show up .    ;D ;D    Hope you can make it there... there a Great bunch of guys there... and the owners wife.. watch out for her, she's a crack 10M shot... seriously.

Enjoy,
Jim

I would only add that the cautionary tales of the donut-stealing dog are not overstated. Watch your fingers, because somebody else is!

He is laying here in the floor next to me now looking full and worn out but if I rattle the donut box he perks up and acts like he is starving.
His name is Oshie.

Some times it is good to be the only pistol shooter. But, I have to say he did also win the shoot off in one of the rifle matches with someone else's rifle. very good shooting.

Hi Mark...
Really glad that you were able to stop in for the shoot with Shane & all the guys there, and that you had an enjoyable time..... Especially "outscoring all those "other" pistol shooters"... that's really great!   lol   ;)

The only air pistol I have is my recently acquired 2240,  and already have it "stocked" (carbine), scoped (UTG Bug Buster [have a UTG Green/Red Dot for it as well], and long style - steel breech so far.... anyway, I won't think of engaging you in an air pistol match til I get another 2 or 3,000 hrs of practice time, in.  ;D       By that time, I would hope to have all the other mods that I envision doing to it... done,(LW 14 - 16" barrel, 2289 pump grip or custom wood, brass muzzle brake, custom trigger group. etc...SO many choices! :D).

Hmmmm....WHY "do we do this to ourselves"?!?...... spend various amounts of money on guns, then we turn around and spend 2 to 3 times more than the original purchase price of the gun.... to turn it into something (sometimes) Vastly different, in every way!!  ???   How many "powder burners" do we own, that we would Never even Think of doing anything to,  to "up grade" them...except "maybe" a scope and perhaps an LED light or lazer ?.....unless, "you" (re: anyone) happen to own an "AR" platform.... those guys are forever "pimping" their guns.  lol  8)

Yeah !!.... I know, because it's FUN.... we like to "tinker" with guns & tools (just recently bought myself a Grizzly G0765 7"x 14" lathe),  and because our wives "let us",  as it keeps us "off the streets" at night and where they can keep an eye on us !!..... they're pretty "crafty",  them women folk are!!  ;D

Guess you've made it home OK... looking at the time on your post.. ??     Nice to have "met" you today,  even if it was on the phone... hope we can actually meet one day... perhaps at KY... IF, we make it there... I think, now though... there may be an up coming wedding for us to be at, that falls on the same weekend, in the opposite direction... over in Arizona,  but that would be OK with me, to.... as I've never been into the Airguns of Arizona store, and we would be only about an hour away to the SE of AoA.

I bought my very first Air Rifle from them (Weihrauch HW80 .22) in July 2013, and 6 or 7 other "toys" as well from them, since then... so, it would be only "right" for me to go visit the birthplace of my airgun "disease".... which could "possibly" result in it spreading further, before I leave their premises..... and to top it off, my wife is encouraging me & "us" to actually Go there, seeing as how we'll be That Close !...... Ohhhh Myyy !!...the temptation & shame of it all !!... but, I "Could" blame it all on her... after all, she IS "enabling" me to go there, you realize !!   ;D

Remember.... "When all else fails.... Blame it on someone, or something.. else" [but, NEVER on Air Guns]   ::)

Take Care, talk soon... have a great weekend,
Jim

PS: Met "chardosmith" (Arnold) on here.... he's located about 2 hrs from us in NW Arkansas, and he has invited us to a 10M shoot next Thurs. -April 7th- (it to, is a weekly event, but on Thursday evenings [for over 15yrs now], doors open at 4pm, Matches start at 6pm... $1.00 per match..Timed Silhouettes.. YOU, should be there!) in Tulsa,OK.  We  will be leaving from his place around 1pm and return by after 10pm sometime (about 4hrs round trip from his place)... then another 2 hrs for us, back to our place.    My wife will be the only woman in the group from Arnolds place, but hoping there will be at least one or two others at Tulsa, that will show up (sometimes, I'm told).

If not.. she's really looking forward to more experience with the 10M shooting, regardless... as I am, as well.    I'm really blessed to have a wife who at least is willing to try and participate, and perhaps even really get to enjoy it... I think we just need to get some easier shooting gear, if we're going to get into this 10M thing.... and I think Tulsa will be a deciding point... plus, Arnold has just started a new AG "club" in NW AR.... called NASA = Northwest Arkansas Spring gun Association (or,"Never A Straight Answer" pertaining to the more well known "NASA"),  and they had their very first meeting about two weeks ago, now... and had 9 in attendance,  with more to come... including my wife & I.   It's a 2 hr drive, but hey... we drove 4&1/2+ hrs one way to get to the Josephville (MO.) Gunshop shoot... and was well worth it,  especially with meeting new friends there.... as you know, I'm sure.       Later.

PPS: You mentioned a "service truck" when we spoke.... what is your profession ??...... you can "message" me at my "inbox" if you wish to.

Yeah... I read Shane's reply to your high pistol score.... lol   ;)     Sounds like you ARE a good 10M shot, though.    I shot ONE (1) "50" in the two days we were there!  lol...... but, I'm gonna blame it on Oshie (the Donut hound) jumping up on me while trying to shoot... trying to get at the jelly filled donuts I had put in my pocket for safe keeping.   ::)  .....You DO, believe me... don't you? :)

Later,
Jim

You liked that pistol shooter gag, eh? It was April Fool's day, after all!

Hey, gotta tell you Jim, when you stock it, scope it, and put on a longer barrel...it's not a pistol anymore, it's a carbine!

We can talk about work in person (but not much), but I prefer to keep those discussions off the forum. M would be angry....

If you haven't been there yet, go over to Rogers AR to the Daisy Airgun Museum. It's a fantastic walk through the company's history, and their little outlet store there has some very good deals. If you happen to see one of the Daisy Avanti target guns there you must buy it, you won't be disappointed.  If you noticed, several folks in Wentzville shoot these little jewels, and at that game they are just as capable as much more expensive rifles.  Just ask Rudy!

Good Mornin !....

Thanks for the reply... so bright and early.

Your right... about my pistols, being carbines... but only for as long until I might decide on a moments notice to revert back to a pistol... which is why I bought those Crosman 1399 "stocks" in the first place... and kept the grips, so I can change anytime I want, either way.... and I have 1377 & two 1322's that I (currently) have stocked.  I purchased a second 1322 with "visions" of turning it into a "1325" with all the internal modding to make it "worthy" of 25 caliber.

I think I might experiment with making some nice, wood center fills for the centers of the Crosman 1399 carbine stocks I have.... will see how the 1st one turns out.

I mentioned that you could answer me in regards to the other question.... via my "personal message inbox".... however, in person certainly is best.. or, not at all.... was only curious when you mentioned the "service truck".

I can't remember if I gave you my ph. num. or not.... if not, would you like it ?

Have a great day,
Jim

Thanks for your reply and picture... Yeah, I like that... will have to find a decent piece of walnut.  We have "no shortage" of cedar around here.... Hmmmmmm!!   ;D      Will let you know.

PS:  Saw your reply to the upcoming shoot in California (MO.) this coming Sunday (4-17-2016)... my wife and I are going to try our best to be there,
hopefully will meet you there.

That stock is begging for a blackpowder-esque patch box, but big enough to hold a pellet tin. Or at least a magazine.

Actually it is rally only a half insert, the back side has a velcro strip that holds three 25-shot pellet patches.

Hi Bryan,

I started this thread... but am NOT the owner of the Josephville Gun Shop.... Shane Seals is.   My wife and I only went there for a shoot, nearly two months ago (already!), and had a Great time there.

To answer your question about does he have any airguns in stock.... yes, he does.... and he also is an airgunsmith (as well as powder burners) & machinist.   They shoot 10M indoors (also has an outdoor range for firearms) for the airguns, so a number of his guns for sale are "geared" for 10M... ie: Daisy Avanti 853's etc.... at least when we were there.

If you get there... watch out for "Oshi"... the "Donut hound" (actually a nice Alaskan Malmute)... beware if you have a donut in your hand!!  ;D      They always have a BIG box of fresh donuts & coffee on hand.

If you would like to call Shane, ahead of time... his number is (636)-332-5450 (shop).

It's a bit of a drive for us... but, we do intend on returning at some point in the not too distant future... it's worth the drive.

Hope it works out for you, and you can make it there.... I know that if we (wife & I) were as "near" as you, apparently are (1 hour)... we would most likely be there nearly every Friday.

Take care,
Jim

Hi Teep...

Thanks... Nice looking "fill"... and nice "work"!!   Just so I know.. what did you use to hold it in place, specifically?

I don't have any walnut... But, I do have Lots of Cedar, and some Oak....  :D

Thanks,
Jim

I used a dremmel tool to cut small slots in the stock for a couple of then washers on each end that are held in place with screws.  The washers and screws are covered with the velcro.  If I were doing a full insert I would drill the stock for small screws to go into the wood insert.

Hi Teep,

Thanks for the come-back and ideas on the inserts.... since last time I replied to you, I got digging around and found some small brass, internally threaded sleeves, that I can epoxy into the wood, then, as you said... drill down through the stock, bevel the hole and use some matching small brass machine screws with beveled heads.  :D

I have a nice piece of Cedar that is polishing out, very nicely.. am going to get a couple of 14" barrels to replace the shorter crosman barrels... have put the longer steel breeches on all three of my 13XX's so far, along with UTG "Bug Buster" scopes, and the stocks already mentioned... had I known of "Mountain Air Custom Air Guns"dot com... I would have actually saved a few bucks, and just bought a couple of their custom "built" 13XX's and 22XX's... which, I'm thinking of doing anyway... as I was considering "building" a "1320" as well as a "1325".... but, they have those calibers available and for sale.... already built from "mild to wild".... depending how deep, ones wallet is... or, wants to send on one.

It gets to the point (dollar wise) with these "pistols"... that one can start questioning the "sanity" of it all... especially if for the investment, "you" (re: anyone) could have a nice German or UK built rifle.   ;D

Thanks again... hopefully at some point, some of us might be able to get together for a "shoot"... would be fun.

Have a great weekend,
Jim
