I already have a Vortek 30mm seal in the shop as a spare for my HW90 and thought about putting it in my new HW35E. Are you replacing your HW35E seal because it has failed, or as an upgrade? I'm looking forward to your impressions.

Which seal?
OEM, ARH, Vorek, Aussie. somethng else, TBD, ^%$#(, some Chinese varant.
You got a lot of choices. Yes, for the HW 35, 80, and maybe the 90(I do not know), 30mm seals. Just about the widest comp tube of any springer ever.
Anybody know of a springer with a fatter comp tube? I believe even the magnum Hatsans have a 30mm comp tube.

Vortek,
Replacing because……..I can’t leave well enough alone and I need to tinker. :). I have an ARH in there but it’s a tad oversized IMO and I find I really like the Vortek Vac Seal in other guns.
Honestly……I can’t leave well enough alone and just feel like dorking around with the gun. :(

I can totally relate. "Can't leave well enough alone." That has been a good thing and bad thing for me, but it's me. ;)

Chris,
Did you end up installing the Vortek seal? I just put one in my HW35E this afternoon. It's getting dark so I only took a couple of test shots. Rang my 20-yard 2" spinner with the open sights set as they were so I was able to come back inside with my mind more or less at ease.
I did it because my rifle, which has less than 1K shots through it, started to smell funny and lose zero. I popped a scope on it to be sure it wasn't just my eyes. Once in a while, the shot cycle sounded very harsh; almost like the pellet had fallen out when closing the breech.
When I got it apart, the piston slid out with no resistance. I'm wondering if the seal was undersize. It was very dirty but looked intact; not cracked or nicked that I noticed. The rear part of the piston had some light scuffing but what was interesting was the compression area of the bore. It was very dirty and rough-looking... I almost thought it was rusty at first.
I cleaned it up carefully and there was an unusual discolored area back near the cocking shoe cut-out. It was kind of silvery, like lead build-up in a revolver cylinder. Solvents and some scrubbing didn't remove it but it seemed to be perfectly smooth and flush with the existing surface. I deburred the cocking slot, etc., burnished the cylinder with moly grease and then wiped it out thoroughly with a dry paper towel on a dowel. I moly-greased the spring ends, spring and cocking shoe/cocking shoe slot and put it all back together. The new seal went in with a tight fit.
No dieseling on the initial shots and the shot cycle sounded and felt good... a solid "BUNK!" It was on target at 20 yards and whacked my 2" AR500 steel spinner with authority. All's good for now. But, all was good when I first got the rifle, too. If the new Vortek seal doesn't last, I'll have to hone the tube next time.

I have not. It’s on “my list” so to speak but not high up. :)
Glad yours is working out.

A bit off the main topic, but...
Gamo has a 33mm power plant in their Magnum and similar guns. But with a shorter stroke than the big Hatsan's.

OK, thanks. Have you ever shot one?

Yes. The Magnum with gas ram, very quick/sharp shot cycle with ~26fpe in .22cal. A full power HW95 is docile in comparison. Aside from the HW95 and HW97 I haven't shot any other Weihrauch's so I can't compare.

That is just Gamo's dishonest marketing talk - the Gamo "33mm" powerplants have a 33mm OUTER diameter - the ID (which everybody else in the world uses to denote powerplant size) is 29mm, the same as in the H125, and a millimeter less than in H135, HW80, HW35 etc.

Good catch, I stand corrected. Custom air seals lists the "33mm" Gamo as 29mm I.D. ... Didn't know until today. Thanks Duke.
