I decided to get a Daisy 880 and put a Buckrail moderator on it. I don’t expect much from a $50 gun but wow was I surprised. I finished a shoot session with my Avenger and decided to take a shot at a spot I hadn’t shot on my target with the 880. 20 yards, One shot, ten pumps, open sights with CPHP right where I was aiming? Yeah that was a .177 hole for sure. I ended it on a good note:) the one shot group

Does the Buck Rail setup help secure the barrel ? The 880 can be darn accurate for what it looks like.

So the adapter slips over the barrel. There’s a cutout for the front sight. Once the adapter is in place just snug the two screws and screw on the moderator. Pretty solid for $25

Any pellet clipping issues ?

Honestly I don’t think so it’s pretty much hit everything I aimed at plus the gun is a .177 and the mod is a .25 or something I believe because it’s the same as my 1322 Buckrail

I have a few 880's. They are extremely accurate...and powerful!! A huge bang for your buck (Walmart $35-40) and really fun to shoot, not to mention very light and quiet! I call my 880's squirrelminators!! :)

Lol it’s literally a sleeper. I would’ve never guessed.

The bbl. tape mod can turn them from accurate to super accurate.
2 wraps of electric tape about 1/4 to 3/8” from the muzzle of the bbl., then slip the shroud back on.
Takes up any slack between bbl. and shroud.
-
I was under the impression that the newer ones did not need the tape mod.

It would be cool if they did, just a simple modification to the existing sight insert.

I have a half dozen or so recent (made in the last five or less years) 880s in addition to several of the Winchester 1977s. None of them need the tape mod. All the barrels have been tight. I do pump a tube of 100% silicone caulk into the buttstock for handling ‘feel’ and balance.
-
I have 4 880’s and one 1977 win. all in the last 5 years and everyone of them benefitted from the bbl. tape mod accuracy wise.
Also gave them the c/c trigger mod, which greatly aided in being able to see the difference in the tape mod inmho.
Ymmv.

How and where do you insert the caulk?

Take off the buttplate- two screws- will reveal a center hole in the stock. I secure the gun vertically with the muzzle down and add the caulk. I leave the gun in place 12-24 hours to ‘set up’.

I will have to try the tape on one of the newer ones. I just use a tight fitting gage pin inserted in the muzzle of a new (to me) gun to check looseness/movement. Older 880s almost always have some play. Newer ones seem pretty tight, but I’ll try one. Thanks for the tip.

880s are definitely sleeper pesters. I own, well, a lot or air rifles (most people would think i have a "problem") and the one i carry with me in my work truck is a nicely tuned 880 with a mismatched brown stock and forearms, set up for open sights, tape and trigger mod. Is set for 8 pumps at 20 yards and it will head shot a squirrel or chipmunk up to that range without a hitch. Its quiet, light to carry around with me when i tramp around the woods and accurate enough to be "interesting", if you know what i mean. It had a scope on but i love how light it is without so its been naked for now 2 seasons...
8 fpe is all it needs. Ive cleared traps with it (raccoons and possums) as well as sat down and cut cans in half with 3 to 4 pumps. A couple of drops of non detergent 30W every 3 months (it gets shot enough no to dry) and has never missed a beat. Love my 880s

I have had a few come and go. Won't be without one. Currant is one put together from odd parts. Metal Receiver and pump arm, new valve and barrel,( had to work on the bb channel inside with a Dremel to make that fit. NO BB"s!)
Wearing the black stock and forends from a Daisy Shadow and ended up with new barrel shroud. Big old scope and a LDC.
Oh and the trigger has been modded.

I have several from through the years.

The day I got my 880 Shadow I made a vow of NO BBs. I just wish there was a better way than using tweezers or rolling the pellets with a partially closed bolt and hoping not to mis-feed.
-
When I have a new-to-me 880 apart, I mod that trigger, and while doing that I fill that bb hole on the trigger/valve with JB Weld.
Once it hardens I file/sand everything into shape.
You would never know there was a bb hole there. ;D
Also, if there is a notch in the end of the piston, I fill that as well and smooth it. ;D
