Title: Vevor compressor fan buggered up!
Post by: Tweeter on September 12, 2018, 07:31:01 PM
I turned my Vevor on yesterday to fill my gun and it started making an awful racket.  Also noticed little slivers of black plastic flying everywhere and my first thought was to run like heck haha!  Shut it down and noticed that the fan blade had stripped out on the shaft and had moved in all the way toward the motor so it was hitting the inside there.  No damage other than the plastic fan and thankfully I have a spare that I bought with some other parts from a member.

I'm wondering if I should epoxy this on there this time or just push it on and run it?  I haven't heard of this being a common issue so it should be ok?  Something to look out for is all ;)

Oh and before you tell me that I should have gotten a yong heng instead of my flea market knock off, take a look at your fan...  I bet it's the exact same one ::)

Justin I bet you can buy a replacement fan. If worst comes to worst I could sleeve it for you.

Hey Fly, no worries I have a spare that I got from a member when I bought all the tuxing conversion parts (second picture is the new fan).  Thanks for the offer though. ;)

I'd lube the shaft lightly so you can get it off and use some JBWeld to seat it.  I've seem some high load repairs made with that stuff that functioned when I thought it absolutely could not.  Save your spare for a spare.  Or is that redundant?

A thought just crossed my mind while looking at the pictures above.  Wouldn't this system cool better with a helical fan blade than with that square blade setup?

Justin I got to thinking, this maybe the best of all worlds & pull more air for sure.

I may pull my stock fan & replace it with one of these. More air, cooler yes.

Justin, mine did the same thing. What I did was mark the shaft where the back of the fan should sit. I ran the compressor and used a hack saw blade to cut into the shaft for a retaining ring to be installed to prevent the fan from backing into the motor.

Great Idea! So I guess that's what tears them up sliding toward the back. Bad design just pressing them on the shaft. I just ordered the fan in my
post above. That straight blade design as the post above said is spot on, it is just stirring air not cooling as a muffin fan would.
This is the one I ordered. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009OWRMZ6/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009OWRMZ6/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
I plan to weld up a stand for my compressor, water bucket & install a multiple plug strip to plug the fan, compressor & water pump into.
The strips on & off switch will be what turns on the whole system.

Havent even looked inside my clone yet, but would it be possible to put a spacer in there?

I don't have that compressor anymore but IIRC the spacer wouldn't work. I don't think it would have butted up to the inner race of the bearing so it would spin against the housing damaging the end of it. In not positive though.

Jason it was you I got the parts from, I was trying to remember but my memory is terrible thank you!  I guess I know why you had a spare fan as well lol.

Fly, I have tried using a small desk fan pointed at my compressor while its running and it seemed to help some.  I think this compressor fan works well enough if you can keep it from destroying itself haha

Msurf, that's an idea also.  I'll look at mine and see if it will interfere with anything.
