I have never really Squirrel hunted. Even when I was younger it was something we stumbled upon and shot. So the three area I hunt now seem to have dried up and I hunted them just because I knew they always held Squirrels from past experience. I have access to a few 100 arces of state woods that I know nobody Squirrel hunts in but I'm not sure how to locate good locations. I went in today around 1pm and sat in a few locations with large oak or hickory trees until about 4 pm and saw one Squirrel at the last place I sat. What is the best method to find Squirrels now any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also when are the best times to search.

I just thought of something else that has helped me collect more squirrels: When you decide to sit for a while, sit on the shady side of the tree or log or hill. It help to hide you and also light up the squirrels. After you shoot one, don't be too quick to move and you might be rewarded with a second one you never saw showing itself.
Today it rained so I did a combination of sitting and slalking. I got two of the three I hit. Stalked up to four on a black oat tree. I have big woods that surround a old feild that is now over grown with 8 to 10 foot tall pines. A over grown road separates the woods from the pines. I see alot in this area. I shot one on the black walnut tree and should of had another. I then sat 20 yards from the tree and had one come back but never got a shot. Second one I got stalking the low pines. Had a third in a open spot in the over grown pines but he did not go down when hit. I set up a feeder in that location and filled it with sunflower seeds. Baiting is legal here so long as your not elevated... Funny thing is I can bait for deer and hunt elevated but small game u can bait but you have to hunt from the ground. Last night I hunted the tall woods were I had saw Squirrels earlier in the day. I sat and at 4:40 I had a Squirrel stampeed.. Like 6 or 7 Squirrels came through the woods and almost ran me over. So all the advice here has helped alot. Without your tips I would never have found the potential hot spots
Drew I am not an Expert but If you wanted, you could widely scatter about 10lbs of sunflower seed around the day before you go in for your sit. Be sure that if you do this that you are unarmed on your sit. That would draw the avabile squirrel population to that specific area

When you start bringing them in and they habituate to that feeder, leave some for later. If you are in a wooded area, set up the feeder in another location. Let them get used to that for a couple of days, then hit it hard, and repeat. You'll be piling them up high with that method while keeping the population healthy for later in the season and next year. Good luck.
