Ok guys I'm in the market for a bipod & I need your input. What brands, height & features should I look at for prone shooting in hunting applications?
I was considering either the 6"-9" or 9"-13" Caldwell XLA Pivot bipod. Any idea which would be better of the two? Or should I be looking at something else?

I'm looking into the Caldwell xla pivot bipod too, in 6-9" for prone.
I have 9-13" bipods and personally, it may be too high for prone and my terrain. I also have a 6-9" Shooters Ridge and it is perfect for prone.
Also, I would look into the Shooters Ridge bipod series (6-9, 9-13" and 13-23") over UTG bipods. UTG bipod springs are way stiffer, almost too stiff for comfort. Shooters Ridge are just right and easily deployable.
The lower the bipod the more stable the gun will be.

Too late Frank, I already took the plunge on the Caldwell. Should be here between tomorrow-Monday.
I considered the Harris, but had some reservations. I'll most likely be looking into getting the Harris panning adapter eventually tho

I'd like a Harris too one day. But funds don't allow.
So I'm going to try the Caldwell too.
I'd also like an Atlas and GG&G bipod

Well I just got the Caldwell bipod. I haven't mounted it yet, but i t seems to be well made, leg deployment is a tad stiff, but not too bad. Extension & retraction of the legs are smooth, fast & easy. The pivot function seems a tad stiff, let's see if it improves with usage.
So far, I'm very happy with the purchase.

The Caldwell bipods are good Chinese copies of the Harris bi-pods.

The best is nice, but I about swallowed my tongue when I saw the prices on Accu-Tac!
http://www.accu-tac.com/bipods/
Who can justify hundreds of dollars for a bipod?! That's several times the price of Harris. I'm just starting to look into this, so I have almost nothing to go on so far; but now several years after your post, do you still feel Harris is best? If so, what makes it best; or if not, what would you say now?

The Caldwells, the Winchesters, et al, are all Chinese knock-offs of the Harris bi-pods.
They are the best in my opinion because I have been using them for most of my adult life.
I have six of them (maybe seven let me check the safe) in all configurations.
I do wish the largest was a bit longer.
While sitting on the ground shooting prairie rats, the stomach gets in the way...
The very expensive bi-pods are similar to the bi-pods used by our elite snipers on their 50 caliber rifles.
The Caldwells (MIDWAYUSA regardless of where you buy them is the maker) is the best deal for the money.
Get one that swivels..
