How To Remove Paintball Tank (without On/Off Valve) From Gun?

I just purchased a 3.5 oz. paintball tank to use with My Crosman Mark I and Mark II pistols. I want to swap the tank between these two guns. What is the proper procedure to remove the tank? I am told it can be done. I tried it this evening and blew the o-ring. Clue me in CO2 pros.

You need to unscrew it enough to disengage the on-off pin in the valve and then shoot out the pressure from the gun. Also keep a stock of the o-rings and use a little paintball gun lube on them when assembling.
