hey-Hey!!!,*MY* knee jerk reaction to the range answer is 'gracious!!! what do you think a ricochet will do to a person if it can damage a tank'? Glad they're actually ready to have a proper discussion with you. I'd be a very unhappy gent if I didn't have a place to shoot.cheers,Douglas
UPDATE: Well I called Reed's Gun Range again and had a more rational discussion with the Manager this time. He said to bring in the tank with documentation saying they are safe from explosion and we'd be all set. Is there any type of documentation with regard to the safety of these tanks? Any links would really help if you have 'em. Thanks.
Just educate him and offer to keep it off the firing line and in the main office aslong as its safe and won't get stolen. Walking off the line to the office the refill would be a good compromise.Or you could build a steel box, yes it would be on the heavy side but a steel enclosed case for a tank. Leave the top open to access the valving. A 1/4 steel enclosure should be plenty of defense for a bounce back for most average powered rifles.. I think... and just use it for when you go the range, explain that due to heat building up in a car you can't leave there. Make sure the guy knows ur more then willing to work with him for a compromise as he is already welling to hear you out and allow you to show him the setup. That means he is open minded to the idea about but is trying to be safe and cover his rear end from any lawsuits from injuries..You gotta remember most people don't know about modern airguns.. some education goes a long way, call the guy and setup a after hours just you and him on the range.. let him see its safe
i wouldnt try to pull the "wool" over their eye's, id bring the mrod and tank in and show it to them, heck even let them shoot a few clips and watch you refill it. odds are the only kind of tanks they have ever used were propane tanks, or oxygen tanks. so their really just trying to be safe and keep their customers safe. a 4500psi tank is dangerous if it gets dropped on its valving or hot by a bullet it could rupture or take off like a 4500psi cf missle.. so i can understand where their coming from and it sounds to me like a little arigun education is in order. i really think you should go speak to them with the tank and rifle and some pellets and offer to let them shoot and watch you refill so they know that its safe and ur not a dummy who could cause property damage or hurt/kill from improper use of a hpa tank
