Couldn't resist getting a couple of the $20 Daisy 74 rifles from Cabelas. I knew from reviews that the advertised 350 fps would be optimistic. I didn't run it across the chrony but it is very weak. After watching a couple videos on youtube I decided to tear it apart and see what I could do to bump up the power.
Sorry, no fps results from the mods just effect on a tin can.
Out of the box it left only very small dents.
1. Stretch the hammer/barrel spring = no change, as expected.
2. Drill out the valve pin to
5/32
" 5/64" = noticeably louder report and bigger dents.
3. I don't know the correct name of the part that pushes against the valve pin (have since learned that this is the firing pin) but I reduced the overall thickness from 10.1mm to 9.7mm. Material was only removed from the rear. This allows the valve pin to push a little further into the valve and increase dwell.
It now punches holes in the can. I'm sure that shot count will be much lower but that's OK.
I've had a couple feeding issues since the mod. I don't know if it's mod related or the old oxidized copperhead bbs.
I'll try to get some shots over the chrony later today.

I have hopped up a 74 before, results were pretty good. 74 mods begin on page 5

Try using the attached diagram to describe what you did.

I read through most of the linked discussion and it appears that I replicated two of the mods that you tried.
Shortening the firing pin: I think you shortened by .012". I shortened by .016".
Drill out the valve: You drilled 3/32". I drilled
5/64"
(Incorrectly stated 5/32 in my original post)
I was able to put a few shots across the chrony and got between 350 and 360 fps. It was 35° in the garage so I had to let it warm up in the house prior to shooting. I think my feeding issues may have been from freezing CO2.
