Title: Shoot ? ?
Post by: Bicycleman on July 15, 2013, 04:53:58 PM
In October, I will be visiting your state for a couple of weeks.  I would love to do a competitive shoot while there.  Does anyone know of something?

JFYI there is a municipal (FREE) shooting range in Pennsboro, WV 26415 (just north of Rt. 50 between Clarksburg and Parkersburg.) It's located at Tracy Lake (Bond's Creek) which is north of the city but legally City of Pennsboro public property, and also known as our city park.

West Virginia is blessed with many "Open to the Public" shooting ranges.  And most of those are easy to drive a "CAR" to on asphalt roads.  Good luck with your shooting.

West Virginia is blessed with many "Open to the Public" shooting ranges.  And most of those are easy to drive a "CAR" to on asphalt roads.  Good luck with your shooting.

Unfortunately the frackers are rapidly buying/leasing them up,
completely destroying the roads (such as they are)
with trucks they were never remotely built to survive,
and using them for equipment and chem tank dumps,
and the enormous expanses of cancer evaporation ponds.
These mushrooming facilities have already made much of WV's water and air carcinogenic. Pity the fool who eats the deer meat or the fish. Hunter friends report they're so contaminated (they love to drink the salty frack water) they're finding kills just abandoned, and showing internal liquids of unnatural colors and chemical odors.

It's gotten so my ancient car won't survive those "roads"(no they're not all asphalt even.)

The administrators who are supposed to preserve and protect our wilderness and parks, never mind residential public health and safety, are easily bribed with "leases" and "donations-" as WV government
has been for almost two centuries.
But the (Public!) properties are being rendered unusably toxic industrial wastelands.
It hurts to breathe the air here, and people are coming down with nightly nosebleeds
and those who can remotely afford to leave are being driven out of WV in the surrpunding cunties. We're next.. I'm starting to lose my best friends to these migrations, some couples simply hitting the roads as gypsies. When the gas money runs out.... you will see a geezer crime wave of legendary proportions.

And we are among the many who could never afford to take the property value loss and simply leave for somewere we could never afford to live - or even, as is happening all around us, buy a used RV and live in that.

It's a crime what they're doing to WV's communities.
A distant rival store chain just bought and closed our town's ONLY grocery market,
not that it was that great, so they could rent the property to frackers.
The closest grocery is now 10-15 miles, over hills and frack-ravaged rough roads my car would never survive round trip.

Please excuse my cranky demeanor of late, but this has been imminent for a year we've been fighting it, and now I've additionally been mostly off my feet, medicated, and losing sleep with constant severe back pain in the midst of all this, and in this supposed world of modern medicine, for just over two months now. Medieval.

Surgery is *finally* scheduled for three (more!) weeks from now,
hopefully a light at the end of the tunnel either way it turns out
after a totally lost quarter of a year.
Paralyzed, dead, or good as new - roll the magic 8-ball.
("But doctor, will I be able to pump my Benji?"
    "I don't know - could you, before?" )
I'm using my airgun hobby as a means to avoid literally going mad.

Tomorrow I start receiver and trigger group polish on the FDPCP (GEN II, .22, ordered power tuned with no plastic.. gotta get rid of what sneaked in somehow anyway.)
It's already cost more than a B51. Counting last month, more than an Mrod, but without a pump ;)

I just brought my sharpening stones in from the garage.
(Only 45 feet, but that walk is a day's work, in pain.)

Now where are they getting this pure moly powder everyone talks about?
And more silicon light grease for the O-rings (which I forgot to order.)

Parts are on the way for the reverse bottle HPA conversion and rear return spring valve mod.
Should be a fine gun - it shot well out of the box, the 'feel' just needs refinement.
But after Eric gets it next month, it should be truly SPECIAL.
It may deserve a thumbhole stock. Wonder if a QB could be made to fit?

Rod - in love with the modern world.
