This little piggy should have stayed home

Went to my favorite hunting spot this morning in the North GA mountains for a squirrel outing. Weather guess from the TV man was supposed to be overcast all day with a little cooler temperature, but as usual, he was incorrect. The sun was super bright and by 9:30am temperature was approaching 90 degrees. After two miles in, the only things I had seen were hundreds of spiders, a large rat snake, and a lot of pig sign. The heat was taking it's toll, so I decided to head back to the truck. While walking back up one of the logging trails, I saw movement in the brush off to the left that turned out to be three pigs rooting around a large pine tree. They did not see me, so I moved to a position where I had a clear shot lane and waited for one to present a good angle. The rangefinder said they were 29 yards out, and one finally moved into the perfect position and I took the shot.
My SPA M16 .25 cal with a Vector Optics Grimlock II 1-6X24 scope is tuned to shoot H&N Baracuda pellets at 51 ft lbs at the muzzle and is hole in hole capable at 35 yards when I do my part. It did not let me down this time, hitting the pig just below and slightly forward of the ear canal. Piggy dropped straight down, kicked three or four times and was DRT.

Excellent shooting and enjoyed the story! Now you can have bacon and eggs, or ham and eggs, or even sausage and eggs. Hope you have chickens!

Thanks Ken, oddly my M16 rifle is my backup rifle to my Airforce Escape which I purposely bought to hunt piggys. Have not had the same luck with my Escape yet...

Steve, it sounds like you got our weather forecast, and I got yours, 2 bummers for me I had to work, and no 3 little pigs hanging out in the woods here
BTW I own more SPA guns than Airforce, both very capable for the job at hand, and seems to do fine in your hands too

Thanks again Randall, James and Brent.
James, I 've owned several SPA guns and wish I still had some of them. I loved the P12 in particular, should have never sold that one.

i feel ya there! Nice kill! I'm still waiting for the moment as we don't have as many hogs here. Good to know the Airforce should have no problem taking a hog.
Hope the rest of your season goes as well.

Hi Robert, we seem to have more and more hogs in North GA lately, with pig sign everywhere. I currently have my Airforce Escape UL detuned to average about 62 ft lbs with NSA 33.5 gn slugs, but can jump to high 70's or more with a twist of the power wheel if necessary. I have little doubt that with proper shot placement, the Airforce guns can take pigs within reasonable range. According to Strelock Pro, the 33.5 gn slug still has over 50 ft lbs at 50 yards with my current settings.

Thats a good slug choice! I have shot those from my 25 SS with really good results. K.O's are great to!
I really like the heavy stuff when I change to the 24" barrel. Then I get heavy! like 46gr AVS - 55.5gr NSA or the most accurate/powerful (but also expensive) Altaros 49.5 gr for over 100 ft lbs.
I guess being a land owner & wishing there was more pigs to hunt is a double edge sword! But would love to get one in my crosshairs this yr.
Thanks for sharing!

Yep, the hogs can certainly do some damage. The DNR in GA is happy to see them taken out on the WMA.
My Airforce Escape does very well with the 33.5 gn NSA slugs. I have some 43.5 gn slugs as well but I am saving those for when the excrement hits the windmill.
Slugs sized .250 shoot well from my M16 with unchoked barrel, but alas, Nick has quit making .250 slugs smaller than 33.5 gn and the M16 does not like .249 size. I am on the lookout for something in the 26 gn range sized .250 for that rifle.
