Gamo2... canoe camping. Are your arms kind of tired or did you let the kids do all the paddling? I shot my one hand on Monday. I'm still in the low 140's.

I've been so busy working on my PP700, I almost forgot to post my 2 hand target. Decided to try the Meisterkugeln 7 gr. this time.

Kid Shelleen, it was the first time I did solo canoeing. Going from the mainland to an island with my backpack in the middle with the wind in my back was great...it was only a 15 minute paddle. The next morning we had to go back to the mainland for the Opening and flag raising...that was a problem as like a newbie I was sitting in the back of the canoe (No heavy backpack in the middle) and going against the wind. I should be sitting in the middle facing the stern. Everytime I paddled the bow would rise up and catch the wind and it would turn the canoe....I was struggling and getting tired and overheated. Finally a pair of expert Scout paddlers (They have done Class 4 White Water runs lots of times) came to the rescue...one guy came on board and I went to the bow of their canoe. As we were paddling back to the mainland my partner and steersman (A 71 year old gentlemen who have paddled his whole life (Went to school by paddling and portaging his canoe since age 9!!! He had to portage 5 times to get to school...he really lived in the bush.)) explained that I should've sat closer to the middle of the canoe (I/the Scouts had learnt that 2 months ago prior to our event...in one ear out the other I guess) since there were nothing holding the bow down (Everytime the bow went up it acted as a sail), and paddled closer to the shoreline to get some protection from the wind. Wow....the man had a thick book of canoe knowledge....in the 10 minute paddle with him I learnt A LOT!!!
Anyways for the whole day I went with two kids (Bow and middle) and I paddled and steered...it was easier with three engines and the weight to keep the canoe going more or less straight. The next day the wind finally died down and I went back to soloing. In about two months we'll be going to another canoe camp...this is a bigger event; rifling, archery, climbing, repelling, mountain biking, snokling and sailing (Latter two I've never done)...and my brother and I will go canoe soloing again (He have never solo canoed...).
I know...off topic in a shooting match event. ha ha

Wow, sounds like a real adventure. I've only been in a canoe three times and it was hard getting it to go straight the first time when I was in it by myself. The next two times I was with a friend and it was so much easier paddling straight with two people but it did require some coordination trying to paddle at the same time. I did a little work with scouts when my kids were involved. Helping on a few camping trips and occasionally running small groups through the shooting range to train and qualify for merit badges.
Thanks for telling me about the canoeing experience. It was fun reading about it. Good luck on your next trip. Shelleen
I for one really appreciate short notes and stories in these forums. It's no fun just shooting and posting a target. It's more enjoyable posting a few comments and exchanging stories. It really helps build up the camaraderie.
