While the PCP hunter class has been doing well, the piston hunter class ranks at THAGC have indeed been going the way of the dinosaur just like the open piston class. Since the common hft practice at matches with low piston turnout is to simply roll the piston shooters in with the PCP shooters I've requested and received approval from the THAGC leadership to offer an un-sanctioned piston hunter class that I'll call ""Sporter Piston Hunter Class".The SPHC rules will be the same as the "officially recognized hft rules", except for a few modifications.1. Any piston gun is allowed and those with factory supplied adjustable stocks may be adjusted to suit the shooter.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Not allowing factory adjustable stocks to be adjusted to the shooter, yet allowing a cunstom fitted stock because it can't be adjusted makes no sense at all!2. Any sighting method is allowed, optical sighting and rangefinding to be done at 16x max. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I recently received an email where there was a proposal that only scopes of 12x max or less be used for HFT. Well, this email actually proposed forcing a shooter with the 4-16x Center point to buy a new 12x max scope to compete in the HFT class! It makes no sense at all to restrict the use of a common low cost 4-16x scope simply to eliminate the users of high end optics who turn the power down to 12x. Accommodating the users of the common 4-16 power scopes will also eliminate the "high power scope turned down equipment but wouldn't penalize current 4-16 power users.3. Any shooting position and gun support is allowed including terrain features and the lane markers themselves with these exceptions......a. Sitting stools, buckets etc. (if used) must not provide back support.b. External gun supports such as cross sticks are to have no more than two points of contact to the ground. For those within commuting distance of the THAGC course in Mt Pleasant, NC and would like to try the more liberal rules of this SPHC "trial balloon" are encouraged to come, bring your sub 20fpe piston gun and "run with what ya brung" to the November match (match date to be finalized)!2. Any sighting method is allowed, optical sighting and rangefinding may be done at 16x max.
