Gamo Big Cat .22 accuracy...still a problem...help!

I have a stock Gamo Big Cat with the original 4x scope. I have cleaned the bore with goo gone and also installed a Charliedatuna trigger. The trigger is great by the way. But.... I sight the scope in, which is good for a few shots...just enough for me to think it is going to hold.... then the next shot wanders off. I have had that scope off and back on with more and more locktite.... but that does not seem to do it. The scope rings are the standard 2 piece design that came with the gun. My thought is the scope must be bad, but it still looks fine. When scopes break is there any visible damage or do they just move around on the inside? I am thinking about trying a 1 piece mount with a Centerpointe 3x9 scope.
Question: Am I on the right track and these gamo scopes are really this bad? or have I got something else going on in the gun? Squirrels are laughing and my dignity is at stake...your expertise is appreciated.

My gamo scopes are all broken and they died quickly. My big cat sports a leapers tactedge 4x40 mil dot scope. Its a tough scope. Leapers scopes are very good quality and their rings are top of the line. I think your on the right track with replacing the scope.

It could be the scope, but it could be the pellets too, or both, or none. It may be the gun. Bad seals cause inconsistant discharge pressures and a bad spring will mess you up as well. In other words, you need to positively identify the problem before you go spending a pile of money. Theres plenty of experts here that can help, so dont stress over it. Try shooting without the scope and compare the groups. Hang in there and keep asking questions till you hit on something.

Try shooting without the scope and compare the groups.
amb is giving you some good advice there.
My first reaction was that it probably is a dying/dead scope. If a new scope is what you need then you are indeed on the right track for which one you want, CPs are great scopes for the money. Also you cant go wrong with a one-piece mount, I have the Gamo one-piece that came with my gun and I have yet to have any problems with it.

I never gave the scope that came with my whisper a fair shake because I had heard bad things. Definitely get yourself some one piece rings though because that will give you a more solid base for your scope. You should try some different pellets as rich suggested and if you do get a new scope leapers and centerpoint are great ones or the money.
Good luck

Thanks for the input guys. I had the spring out when I put in the trigger...seems fine. I did not check the seal. I did not want to pull it out and not have another one to replace it....then I thought if I pulled the seal I should really hone/polish the bore and remove the rough edges...and if I bought a seal, well a spring was not really that much more, which left me wondering if I should get a Maccari or Tarantula....and if the new Tarantula would fit without making some custom parts....all of which left me thinking I need to do a lot more research.... and ask some of the experts here more questions. I had not considered amb's comment that the seal could be the problem with the accuracy....hmmmm maybe time to tear the gun apart again.
BTW, I am shooting CHHP...work good in my Benjamin, and I can buy them cheap locally.
These air guns are addictive. I'm intrigued at all the modifications people do to these guns to make them shoot better. Thanks for all your help.

Definitely change the two piece rings to a one piece mount. Then try different types of pellets...the dome ones are usually the most accurate. Stay in the 7.5 to 9 grains weight range. Those are the two least expensive changes/experiments you can do to check the rifle's accuracy.
The next step is to buy a beefier scope since the "Package" scopes are usually not well made....a Leapers, Bushnell Trophy or Banner or Hawkes should work.
The piston seal might need to be replaced also.....I almost always check the above first before opening up my airguns (Gets messy).
Thanks Erick for the correction.....that's what happens when one start falling asleep in front of the computer.

Stay in the 7.5 to 9 grains weight range.
Stay in the 14.3 to 15.9 since it's a .22 cal.
The package deal scopes are usually not good quality. I think you're on track with the 1 peace mount and new scope. Leapers/CP seem to be good for the money scopes.
Also trying different pellets will help. "Taming" spring guns is tough but satisfying once you find that sweet spot.

If your looking to tune it yourself the maccari kits are the way to go for gamos. I used the kit with the 3650 spring. Also while you have it apart doing that fill the stock with expanding foam. It will realy quiet the echo and make it feel more solid.
Domed pellets work better in my guns. In 22 i shoot the beeman fts/hn ftt in 14.66 gr. The 15 gr jsb's are also very good.

Have you noticed any loss in power with the Macarri E3650 spring or about the same as the stock spring? What is the benefit of the Macarri spring?
Anyone have any experience with the Tarantula spring? What does it take to install in a Big Cat?

the E3560 is a stock spring replacement with stock guides, the Tarantula is a better spring, smoother and cleaner breaking, but requires a custom guide. basically a stock replacement vs a pro tune spring. the 3560 is a GREAT spring however, my Hunter 220 that my father "Borrowed" has a 3560 in it and i'd do it to any rifle of mine!

my Big Cat has a Tarantula spring in it.I have not shot it in so longthat I couldn`t tell you much about it.Gene installed it for me with custom guide & top hat.
For a E-Clip I would go to a hobbie store & I bet you`ll find one there.
