My new CFX rifle

I didn't think I would get a Gamo after the problems with the Big Cat I had but here I go again I went for a CFX I did a camo on it and it is better looking I don't like plastic stocks , But I will probably
make a nice Walnut and Purple heart stock for it , I do like the rifle it shoots very accurate and that is what it's all about but Gamo's still have the screen door sound when fired, I think I will live with it since it shoots very good and I don't think I should tare it down ( if it aint broke don't fixe ) You might make it worse. I have put some tar on it but it most likely needs a new better fit on the spring guide. Howie1a
PS I don't think I'll need a new trigger since I made a new trigger spring from a SS fishing leader mtl. ( I 've made springs from this mtl before and it works great ) I had tried taking the spring out but you can't get the safety to work if you don't have the spring in the trigger but if you replace it with a lower power spring it is much nicer shooting gun.

Camo gives it a good look! I'd like to have a wood stock as well but no luck finding one yet for my CFX. Good luck .

I'll end up building a walnut stock for the CFX I've built some rws 48 stocks before about 5 of then and a pile of RWS 34's stocks asa well as the QB78 and others so a wood stock for my CFX will be no problem it will just take some time I have a nice pice of walnut in my shop or maybe I'll do one in a laminated mtl. When it's done I'll post some pictures Howie

Nice looking camo job, Howie.
Interestingly enough, neither my .22 nor my .177 CFX has ever had that screen door sound to them.
I suppose I just got lucky.

Great camo job! I don't think my CFX sounds odd but since it is my first air gun I don't know what they are supposed to sound like.

Hi I just did a tune on my CFX, it is a smooth as silk and accurate too, But some of the twang is still their, I guess I'll just have to see when I get a new stock on it if it still does the twang thing, I did not change any parts but did the shrink tubing mod. and polished the spring ends.I also polished the trigger parts while I had it down and it is a lot smoother trigger not a 1 lb trigger but very nice and smooth , I am working on 2 stocks one will be sold , one is a laminated wood and the other is a walnut and longer than the factory stock, will be kind of like a stutzen when finished. Here is the pieces of wood that will be the new stocks Howie

Just a suggestion for you, but you could either have PyramydAir install a Nitro Piston in your CFX, or you could go over to David Slade at
http://www.airgunwerks.com
and buy a gas ram from him and install it yourself.
I took the former route with my .22 CFX after its factory spring broke, and I really like the result, just a solid THUNK! when fired, with no rattling, torquing, or buzzing at all.

I've pulled the CFX down again and re polished the spring and relubed it and now the twang is gone, I can't see putting new parts in a new gun, the parts are allready new, I do think Gamo needs a larger dia spring it's very close but could be tighter. Howie

Could you put a stainless steel washer under each end of the spring to get more tention for more FPS without hurting the spring or rifle.
I've never worked on an airgun before, so I don't have much of a clue except that I'm going to need to make a spring decompressor to take the rifle apart.
Have most of you made your own or is there a cheap and better way of decompressing then compressing the spring?
I'm thinking not, I know they are under a lot of pressure.
I really love the new CFX I got, but it's so darn cold now, I can't shoot it much and am afraid that the cold weather will damage the seals when shooting. Anything to that?
Thanks, John K

The cold weather shouldnt damage seals, only cause a velocity decrease temporarily because you lube gets more tough and tacky inside of the gun when cold

dksac2, it's not really all that hard to build your own spring compressor, and here is a good thread that discusses it:
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,2701.msg24066.html#msg24066
I didn't go the same route as shown in the four videos to make mine, instead using Perry's basic design further down this thread, with some small usability modifications.
You can see both Perry's and mine to get the general idea.
Mine is constructed with a burly 46" Jorgensen bar clamp.
