The Healthways Plainsman was designed and first produced in the sixties until 1987
It was modeled after the Colt Woodsman that it resembles, it’s also a decent shooter as well as being well made. Reliable and decent examples can be had for relatively little money. Good reasons for considering the Plainsman if you’re thinking about expanding your collection of vintage replicas pistols. You do need to know which version to buy if you are to avoid problems sourcing ammunition. A few models in .22 special ammo is needed. Eight or nine models were produced. ,

I acquired one in a trade lot years ago, fun gun, just flick your wrist after each shot to ensure it loads another BB.

Healthways began the design work back in 1952 to replace the single shot Challenger Plainsman CO2 pistol.
it was not release until late 1957. Richard Kline wanted to replace the single shot model with a true semi auto pistol.
It was the right business move for Healthways who sold a ton of these semi auto BB pistols.
The Box art on the early 9401 pistols actually has a guy shooting a Challenger Plainsman CO2 rifle.
Healthway's has owned the Plainsman tradename for airguns since 1949 until Marksman bought the Plainsman line.

I have the very rare Healthways Plainsman MX175 semi-auto BB rifle. It has a walnut stock on it! In pretty good shape for around 1970 vintage.
I also have two of the plainsman 175 pistols. This one from the late 50's uses the steel BB's commonly available today. Though originally, they were lead coated steel;
And this slightly newer one from the 60's. Cool how the serial # starts with, " 007"!
