Hi Louis - Your reviews are always spot on and fun to read. I personally like the stock treatment. One of the advantages of working on old Crosmans is the fact that there are enough of them available that one can take liberties to upgrade or personalize them and not worry about ruining a collectable. You mention your Bobcat above. Have you posted a teardown somewhere on this Forum? Have one that needs some love. Thanks for sharing your expertise. Your passion is evident through your posts!
The 187 is nearly ready. The CCL stock oil needs to harden and then I will polish it a bit. I cold blued the tube cap (a previous owner must have tried to unscrew it with pliers whilst there was pressure in the gun). The Crosman mount is stabilised with a rubber strip between the barrel and the mount. This works well. It feels solid now. Trigger is super crisp. Best trigger I have - honestly. Some simple adjustments and a drop of blue Loctite here and there, and it's just brilliant. Hail Rudy Merz? I have bought a stock with original finish. Just to have the "original option" too. But I kinda like this blonde style with "ebony forend tip". The boxed Sears 180 was my first 180. I liked the looks, but when I shot it, I completely fell in love with it. It's doing about 30 shots at 425 ft/s with 15.89 gr JSB's. That about 6.4 ft/lbs. At one click of the hammer: "high" power (2 clicks) does not give higher velocity, just a louder bang (more CO2 wastage, I guess). Strange? The boxed Crosman 180 is performing a bit better than the totally un-modded Sears 180. Same power (I guess 6.5 ish footpounds is the max for this gun?), but 20 more shots: 50 in total. At 1 click. Again, 2 clicks doesn't give more power. Hmmm. The 187 does about 40 shots at about 580 ft/s with 8.44 gr JSB's, on 2 clicks. That's about 6.3 ft/lbs. One click is about 410 ft/s.Next "to do": test outside; check accuracy!
You have two BSA MMC? What’s the fancy stock on the one? The MMC never seemed to get traction but I love mine.
Nice BSA collection! I have the one single shot MMC and two SuperTENs, a MKII and an MK1 done by AZ.
