Brookhaven Long Island range users?
« on: September 30, 2019, 07:17:26 AM »
I went to the Brookhaven air rifle FT range early Sunday morning with my girlfriend. When we were setting up targets she asked me if they allowed people to shoot glass bottles here. I sad, "NO" . She pointed out a railroad tie at about the 35 yard station that had several shattered glass bottles on and around it. Then I noticed several other broken glass bottles at various stations. I was there late Thursday and there was no glass there. This was done Friday or Saturday. I'm looking for information from anyone who was there either of those two days. This is the only air rifle ft range I know of on LI and it's basically user maintained. It's unfortunate some dirt bags don't care about ruining it.

I was there two weeks ago, no glass.  I would report it to the guys at the check in office, they will keep an eye out.  Unfortunately it only takes one or two people to ruin it for the rest of us.  I always pick up a bucket of trash when I get there and put targets out, some people are real slobs.

I'm almost afraid to report it to the office because I don't want them to shut it down. I do the same thing as you. I'm always cleaning up people's left over targets and cardboard. Glass just stinks to clean up. I only started utilizing this range this summer. I put new plywood in the 50 yard stand. I really enjoy going there and it kills me people are so selfish and inconsiderate.

I hear ya, I would be devastated if I couldnít shoot there anymore, itís a great range for us airgunners.  If I see someone doing something stupid, Iíll definitely say something!  I suggested a couple years back about putting up some signs with doís and doníts, but that never happened.
Unfortunately the airgun range isnít a big money maker for the shooting facility, minimal money goes back into the range (if any), they ask that you pick up any targets or trash so when they cut the grass it doesnít damage equipment.

There is a field target club that uses range for sighting in before a match, Iím going to call the match director and let him know about the glass and debris, maybe he can get the range to make up signage.

Maybe Iíll see you there one day, Iím usually there on Sundays, Iíll let you know next time Iím headed there.

Dirt bike riders have had this problem for decades. Go to a riding area and there's trash left from the riders that were there earlier. So many places have been closed due to these Dbags. They will insist on riding near where homes are when they have miles of riding area away from the homes. They run loud pipes which also is a riding area killer.
