.30 cal. hand gun
« on: August 26, 2017, 04:46:14 PM »
This is a build that I have been working on for some time now,and it's DONE !!  14 in. .30cal. barrel from TJ's Barrels. It is a .30 not a .308. I can shoot pellets or .30 slugs. The valve is one of Cothran Machine Shop Power House valve with the .250 exhust port. SS air tube and barrel bands also from Cothran Machine Shop. I got the big bore breech from Baker's Air guns.  2240 grip frame. Scope is a Sun Optics 2.5x32
The target was at 50 yards and I was shooting off a sandbag .
Shooting 3000psi it's shooting 965.8 fps , 100 gr. slugs with  207.17 fpe. The slugs that I'm shooting started out as .32 cal. and I resized them to .30. Got my sizing die from Lee Precision,INC

Nice gun. But the chrony number seems a bit high for 14" barrel.

I agree with Doug the numbers are way to high. I suspect your either to close to the chronograph and recording muzzle blast or your light source is bad. Can you try it again my friend further from the chronograph and outdoors not under artificial lighting.

Wow, my DAQ Exile won't do that with a 24" barrel at 3000 psi.... It does seem a bit high....

Its the Cothran Machine Shop powerhouse valve.  I have one or them in my .25 cal. rifle and it is shooting over 1200 fps with JSB Diabolo Exact King .25 Cal, 25.39 gr.
The valve makes a BIG difference !!

Shooting outside. I checked over 5 times and that is what its shooting. Don built a .45 cal. and it shoots way up in the fps range. Have you shot one of his valves??

At first I was to close and it showed 1658 and I knew that was wrong! I was shooting 6 feet from my chrony and the numbers that I posted are what it is shooting!!

No doubt Dons valve makes big power and your 25 with his valve is making 81FPE thats a far stretch from 200+FPE from a 14" barrel. Its just not technically possible, your getting a false reading from your chronograph Im sure of it. Ive shot his valve many many times and they work awesome. The barrel and plenum volume are both to small to produce that power level. BUT If it really does it you just done something no one else has ever done I suspect.

I'll shoot it again but after 5 times and it came up almost the same FPS !  I don't have anyway to make a video of it or I would post it .  This gun is really a hand full to shoot!  I have reason to tell ya'll something that's not true!

I have 2 condor .308's with .320" porting all the way thru. They shoot 112 gr at 1040 fps with a 32" barrel. Hard to beat the inline valve for power.

So you see where were coming from.

Some times a chrony will spit out numbers that are off. I shoot in my garage with a led light kit. When I go out and use other people's chronies I get bad numbers all the time
