Making A Raplacement Triger Spring

Hello All,
I'm not sure if this is where I should post this question so if the 'Mods' deem to move it where is should be posted
I have no objections.
I have a Beeman Chief 1 (original owner) which I think it hates me
I'll spare the reader(s) the details.
I accidently broke the 'trigger spring'......honestly it was an accident.....and I'd like to know if I can 'make' a new one?
I would inquire with the folks at Beeman but in the past they have been less than helpful. They won't return emails or phone calls.
So I thought I might give it a go to 'try' to make a new trigger spring if it's possible.
Many thanks and hope all is well.
Matt

Picture might make for better replies. Springs aren't too hard if you have some basic tools.

That I can do but Beeman provides little to no help/info with spring info.
No pricture of spring as a separate unit.
I can provide a picture of the spring itself but a piece is missing.
When the spring broke it went flying and a small piece of it got eaten up never to be found.
If I can get an idea of what type/kind of 'spring wire' to use, after I mike it, I'll give it a go.
I've never attempted this but like they say, 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'.
Here is a picture of trigger assy with the trigger spring installed:

For starters, Music wire at Ace Hardware, ( measure the diameter). Probably about 3/64”. Spring forming mandrel chart in Machinery’s Handbook, ( I can post a pic of it).
Looks very doable.

Music wire.......perfect!
My grandson is taking guitar lessons and I know they sell replacement strings.
I'll bring the broken spring to the owner and hope he can match it.
Very much appreciate the 'mandrel chart' when you have time.
Many thanks.

Ace usually has the wire in 3’ lengths. Probably about $3 for a bundle of 3 pieces. You can use a drill bit for a mandrel and a block of wood with some finishing nails driven in at the correct locations for bend stops. I do this a lot for various machines that I work on.

Many thanks for the chart and suggestion about using a drill bit for a mandrel along with bend stops.
Sounds pretty foolproof and worth a try.
If it doesn't work I'll give it away 'as is' on this site.
I don't mind fiddling with my break barrels and other PCPs but this one has to be POSSESSED

Not sure but what you have circled doesn’t appear to be what I would call the trigger spring. It appears to be for the sear.
Music wire is used for making guitar strings for sure but once the guitar string gets very big in diameter, it is wound for size. Piano wire (music wire), comes in a lot larger diameters.
Once spring is wound/bent to shape, cook it in the oven at 450 for an hour to relieve the stress and it will maintain its shape/performance over the long haul.
Good luck,
Dave

Don't quiet remember if I was any refueling mission(s)to off-load to them.
Would have had to attach what we called a 'basket' to the end of our boom.
Many thanks for your service.

Search for "Full Hard Temper Steel Wire" or "Music Wire".
Measure the diameter of the wire used in the factory spring and try to get replacement wire close to the same diameter. I got a few useful diameters off of Amazon but their selection varies a lot.
Takes a few "practice springs" when bending because you need to over-bend to compensate for spring-back. Take notes and measurements and you will eventually get one spring that works just fine. After that you should be able to make a new copy anytime you want.
Bending spring wire theoretically puts stress in the steel which should be tempered... held at ~400 deg F (home oven) for a couple hours to relieve those recent bend stresses. I think this may be important for LARGE springs but I have made MANY small wire springs and have NEVER needed to temper the steel after bending.
This IS SPRING WIRE so it doesn't like to be bent multiple times. More than 2 bends in the same place will likely snap the wire. Just start over with a new piece of wire.
